3rd Cousin (Bernal Heights, San Francisco)

3rd Cousin is an interesting restaurant in Bernal Heights - it has the feel of a typical small neighborhood restaurant but the cooking is much more elevated than what you would expect from such a place. The restaurant exists now for quite a few years but only recently really got some broader recognition as it became a “New Discovery” for Michelin. The cooking is on a one star level and nicely combines French, Italian and Asian influences. It has an a la carte menu but the tasting menu is the way to go to experience Chef Lutes cooking

Truffle honeynut squash & manila clams

Japanese buri, green apple, fermented radish, applenero

Fort Bragg uni creme brulee, reserved caviar, trout roe, yuzu tobiko, crostini

Maine diver scallop, wild rice & crab, delicata squash, romano bean, tom yum dashi

Lobster risotto

Porcini & truffle ravioli “francese”

Broken arrow axis venison loin, vegetable & bacon fricassee, celery root puree, black currant

A5 wine kobe, celery root puree, bok choy, cipollini, bordelaise

hojicha kanten, brokaw kiwi & citrus, pine & buckwheat granola

Chocolate “ho ho”, brandied cherries
