Tacos la carreta cannot be beat. I am taking a break from eating carbs so no tortillas but I used the meats and put them on the cucumbers provided and topped them with the salsas. Can’t wait to eat their toritos and chorreadas again on a later date.
Was just here over wkd, tacos la carreta remains in my top 5, the chorreada and agua de cebeda are ![]()

Tacos entre amigos/asadero looks so amazing, gonna try this week to go ![]()
What are the rest of your top 5?
A top 5 is tough, maybe a top 10? No particular order:
Tacos la carreta, mochomitos asador, los cinco puntos, birria y la unica, tamix, el venado, tire shop, sonoratown, birreria san marcos, & asadero chikali.
Could easily make this a top 25-100 list given the sheer breadth of spots and regional cuisine out here in la, but these are what popped in my head first ![]()
New this update: Carnitas Valley, Taco Nazo, Muelle 8, Ta Culichi, Barbacoa Flores, and Birrieria Olivia, while Mariscos Los Corchos, Carnitas Los Gabrieles, Tacos El Paloma, Barba Kush, Tacos Baja, and Birriería El Jalisciense leave.
conveniently many of these vendors will be at taco madness 2026 this weekend
Anyone ever been I’ve always wanted to try this one. I know for awhile they weren’t open consistently
Mariscos Jalisco on Olympic. Four shrimp tacos and a bottle of water for ~$14. Consistency here is so high, even between this truck and their outpost on Cienega.
Went looking for some carne asada afterwards – made it as far as Olympic and, like, Los Palos when we saw a sign for handmade tortillas. it was a guisado spot (the ultimate taco filling?).
one chicharron in salsa verde, and one costilla in a tomato-based sauce. tortillas fresh from the comal.
two tacos, a quesadilla, a 500ml of coke was $20.
Taqueria frontera bang banged with holy basil
Has been really hyped by multiple publications including winning the best taco in LA taco.
They have different salsas for each of their meats which is pretty cool. Loved the tortilla although I like the pastor at Leo’s and tamix more. Very very good don’t know if it’s best in the city but I gotta try their other meats.
I liked the al pastor a lot more than the asada. Pina agua fresca was not great and a whopping $6 to boot.
Interesting well maybe I will have to go one more time the seasoning on their pastor along with the salsa didn’t do it for me.
Not a destination place, but I tried the fish taco at La Talpa (West LA) for the first time recently, and it is surprisingly good. And surprisingly large (more from the cabbage and such, although I think there was a totally respectable amount of fish for the price). It’s so large that it’s not foldable and, initially, at least, needs to be eaten w/ fork and knife.
Only significant demerit is that I wish they had added, like, double the amount of crema.
No pic (sorry).
