I don’t think this is the right thread, but I don’t know where else it would go (and it might be a bit of an orphan in its own thread).
At any rate, anyone w/ intel about the setup at the corner of Pacific and McLaughlin Aves near Little Fatty in Mar Vista? There was a woman w/ a table, and there was a table cloth that had a few items printed on the front. One item was tamales, and the other 2 items started w/ an “E.” I was in a rush and did not have time to stop.
I’d like to say that not all Taco Nazos are created equally. Go to the Bellflower location.
We’ve tried La Habra and Pomona/Diamond Bar/Walnut and those two are subpar.
I’ve only been to the one across from Mt SAC. My main issue there is that the taco fillings are absurdly large so you basically can’t eat it as a taco.
I used to frequent their OG location on Valley Blvd and the 605 back in the 90s. I remember that location being excellent, but it’s been a long time. I agree on your assessments of La Habra being subpar and Bellflower being a good option.
So there is a taco stand in 29th and Crenshaw outside the Bank of America. I can find no info on it, no yelp or name or nothing. It has the best Al pastor and tripa I’ve had in LA. Suadero was fine, but the Al pastor is fucking bonkers. If anyone has any recon, I wanna hear it
Has anyone tried the various taco stands on Santa Monica Blvd. btw Brockton and Bundy in West LA? In addition to Ruben’s Taco trunk, there are like 2–3 other taco stands, one of which was selling crepes (!).
Lunch today from 5 Cazuelas on Riverside at Gilroy:
Two rajas con crema, one cochinita pibil (with the pickled onions), and one chicken tinga. $17. Slightly larger than a typical taco, and I feel like the quality and craft here more than justifies the price.
The rajas is so unctuous and savory. Almost like what I think creamed spinach should taste like at a steakhouse. Pibil was a little smokey, vividly bright, and got a lot of help from the habañero-vinegar salsa. Tinga was stellar, too – very flavor-forward, complex, and just enough detectable onion. Radish sprouts added a nice bite without making anything watery.
I’ve tried all the options, and the rajas and pibil are standout favorites; all of their guisados hold together tightly-- juicy without running.
We were told that the blue corn tortillas are from a tortilleria in Boyle Heights. They take a nice light char and still fold without breaking.
back to tacos entre amigos. two chicken, two adobada, two asada, quesadilla (not pictured), chile relleno. these guys are making really delicious food. well seasoned, freshly made corn tortillas, and tonight some freshly made salsas, too– still warm from the vitamix. $34. can’t wait to go back.
I went here based on the boards recommendation. Incredible tacos.
I did start following them on IG and then got a message from them saying that they were going by Asadero now. I see yelp pages and locations for both names. Not sure what to call them now.
