That sopa de mariscos is bonkers good. Easily the best Mexican restaurant in the city at this point.

Man I’ll have to try the soups here sometime soon!

I also think the Octopus Squid Ink Taco is one of the best in LA.

Smoked fish tostada

Excellent write up @Chowseeker1999, don’t forget the surf and turf bang with Tire Shop Taqueria at night time.

Hi @A5KOBE,

Thanks. Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the smoked fish tostada in any of my visits. I’ll keep an eye out for it. Was it on the specials board, or the printed menu?

Thank you @PorkyBelly! It was all thanks to your early reports and then the pics and raving about the Uni Seafood Stew that made us drool. How are their oysters compared with Connie & Ted’s?

Usually it is discreetly placed on the regular menu under the ceviches. Definitely one of the more creative and tasty dishes on the menu. You know what this means, another visit! :joy:

They sell the habanero and kut at Chichen Itza!

I wish they sold the morita, so much smokey goodness.

Holbox is my favorite raw bar in LA.
I will forever be thankful for Holbox (and FTC) for introducing me to Blood Clams.
They were a revelation when I had them for the first time here–and very reasonably priced.

Is La Cervicheria still owned by the original owner (i.e., the same guy from, say, about 10 yrs ago)? I haven’t been since then, but I did see him prepping blood clams once (in case you’re looking for another place that has them).

Hi @caleb,

Yah it’s really good. Glad you enjoyed it as well.

Thanks @A5KOBE, darn it! I’ll keep an eye out for it next time, along with Carabineros in the case.

And a PSA, when Holbox did get the Carabineros in stock, they didn’t list it on the menu, so look at their seafood case or ask them what specials they might have.

I am such gringo — I kept looking back through all the photos for sopes.
Now I see what you mean…
Was in Mexico City this past weekend and had fantastic food at Contramar.

Also the brunch at the 4 seasons was just amazing. I HATE eating hotel brunches with their horrible omelet and egg stations in the US.
But this was something special indeed.
They had a station with trompo for amazingly juicy tacos al pastor; that station was also doing tacos and queso tacos on a flat grill with pork, chicken, carne and costillas. There was another comal station doing all sorts of porks (carnitas, chorizo) and blue corn tortillas. Then a huge grill for octopus, shrimp, and huge steaks. A ceviche and raw bar station as well. Not to mention traditional Western pastries, cold cuts/cheeses and breads. All super high quality.

75 bucks per person with AYCD Mimosas.

No tuna tostada?

Of curse there were tuna tostadas…but they come right away, and when you are famished (because your last street taco was more than 2 hours ago) you have no time for pictures!
