Lately I have been experimenting with Amazon Prime grocery delivery. Not the Whole Foods or Bristol Farm deliveries (which have both higher minimums for free delivery and high priced goods), but with the direct from Amazon’s warehouse grocery delivery.
There have been some highs and lows with Amazon’s deliveries, but one true high was that I discovered Amazon’s store brand salsa which carries the “Aplenty” label. It is quite literally the best jarred salsa I have ever had. I particularly like the Fire Roasted Double Tomato Salsa – it has a true depth of flavor. The Five Pepper Salsa Verde is also good, but the Fire Roasted Tomato is my favorite. And the Aplenty salsas don’t have preservatives or funky ingredients. Really shocked by this discovery!
The prices are also extremely good on Amazon and unlike Instacart, you are not hit with service fees on top and they don’t ask for tips for the deliveries. The downside is that the product selection is limited, although they usually have a few things I have in my regular rotation like La Fermière yogurt (but not every flavor). They have really good prices on eggs as well and I had several uneventful egg deliveries, until I had eggs brought to me in the middle of they day (I usually get 4:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. delivery) and the bottom of the carton was sopping wet and half of the eggs were broken. The Internet told me to throw out even the non-broken ones saying that water soaked eggs were also a health hazard. Not sure I would trust Amazon again with egg delivery, although I did have several non-eventful deliveries. Amazon immediately refunded my money for the eggs, but it still left me without eggs for the next day.
Wish I could buy Aplenty salsa in the supermarket.
