Wanted somewhere low-key to take my grandparents on New Year’s Day (the 1st). Remembered enjoying my meal at the Venice location a few years ago, and had been hankering for a proper dry-aged steak for a while, so…
House Baked Biscuits
peppered Straus butter, persimmon jam
Biscuits were good, butter was very good, jam was even better.
Smoked Fish Plate
stuffed hashbrown, 3x schmears
Two of the schmears were fish, one was horseradish cream(?). Everything here was pretty good.
Flannery 15-day Dry Aged Prime Ribeye (12 oz)
I wasn’t sure how much the dry aging would come through with only 15 days, but I needn’t have worried - it was quite obvious. The steak was excellent, as were the fries.
Prices here are, if anything, suspiciously cheap, and that’s not even accounting for location. Food took a little while to come out, but we did come at the very tail end of brunch (just before 3 pm) so I’m grateful that they let us order steak at all (they switch to “burger hour” between brunch and dinner). Service was decent.
Is it a super “traditional” steakhouse experience? No. But it’s very good (and underrated).
