I’ve got the itch to try out a spot or two in the next week.
Thank you!
I’m going to Fogo de Chao this weekend. It’s a place we like doing group dinners at during DineLA. But I have had good experiences at Fishing with Dynamite and Craft. Providence and Arthur J are both participating in a higher end experience. For about $100 per person, you can get a chance to try those great places, too.
I went to COD had a great time. Nothing out of this world but its a good neighborhood spot and a fun atmosphere.
Their dine LA deal is pretty decent as they charge 33 dollars for their uni truffle pasta and their dine LA deal is 39 which includes 4 courses.
I had a good time at Spring LA last weekend. Food was very solid. $29 for 3 course lunch but it seems that they have this regularly anyway.
Heirloom tomato gazpacho | red & yellow tomato, bell peppers, cucumber, celery, crostini, extra virgin olive oil
Corn risotto | carnaroli rice, sweet corn, cremini mushrooms, chives
Salmon | bell pepper, onion, piquillo, tomato, parsley, espelette
Nougat | apricot, pistachio, caramelized almonds, charcoal tuile
Chocolate & raspberry | chocolate ganache, chocolate crumble, raspberries sorbet, raspberries
That corn risotto looks so good! Don’t know why I never thought of making it!
very nice looking dish
risotto looks well done indeed.
I just went to Morton’s and their DineLA menu is the same as their normal prix-fixe lunch menu, but for about $10 less. It’s normally $35, but DineLA is $25. Lots and lots of calories for a decent price. I ordered the lobster bisque ($3 supplement), the 9 oz ribeye (thin, but they managed to get it medium, like I asked. Good flavor with garlic butter on top and tender), and the key lime pie (1000+ calories!). Don’t need to eat for the rest of the day.
I hadn’t been back to Fogo for quite some time…at least 3-4 years. It seems that they’ve remodeled during that time. The walls are now beige, plain and the chandeliers are like dark wagon wheels suspended in the air with lights to remind you of candles. And for some reason, I miss the splashy blue tiles and elements they used to have. As part of the redesign, they’ve also managed to fit as many tables into the place as they can. Walking around is tight because you cannot share the pathways anymore…one person has to get through before someone else going the opposite direction can go through. I am not a fan.
The dineLA menu has 3 protein options less than the regular menu…you are missing beef ribs, lamb chops, and ribeye. It does include dessert…though, it’s a sliver of a slice of cake…at least half of the normal size serving if you were to pay retail. The food and service are still great. Meats carefully cooked, and delivered to your table at various cooking temps. From the same server, we were able to get medium-rare and medium well slices of beef and lamb. Some in our group loved the pork chops…it arrived perfectly juicy and sizzling…I thought it was rather salty though. The market table of salads and sides is still fantastic. Fresh options that the staff was on point in refilling on a regular basis. My only complaint was the asparagus seemed to be prepped wrong…I got too many stalks that needed more trimming at the ends…way too fibrous to eat. Still love the marinated mushrooms and the watermelon-feta salad was delicious.
This may be my last visit here unless we have a group of friends who want to do a group outing. The lure of this place has lost it’s lustre for me. Great caipirinhas from the bar still.
Going with a friend to WP24 tomorrow. Is it known for anything in particular?
The view.
I see…that kind of dinner. I should have asked this board prior to agreeing to the location.
Just as @J_L suggested, DineLA at WP24 was indeed lackluster. The view was nice, but it was a rather hazy L.A. evening, so it wasn’t completely clear.
The best dish of the evening was the twice-cooked pork belly with Chinese BBQ spices, long beans, and golden chives. The pork was cooked well and the skin was crackling crisp…the vegetable accompaniment was a tad salty.
The peaches & cream dessert with coconut, Keffir lime, and lemongrass was also nice. Light, refreshing…it was a nice way to end a meal.
I was completely offended by their Crystal Chive Dumplings with Alaskan King crab, shrimp, Kurobuta pork, red chiles, cilantro, and XO sauce. We added this one to try some other menu items. What could have been a decent pan-fried dumpling was ruined by an excessive amount of sauce that was so aggressively seasoned that it took away from the delightful filling inside. The wrapping was also inept as it cracked and broke while it was cooked. Don’t order this one.
The view isn’t worth the visit alone.
Hi @attran99,
Thanks for the report back; your experience mirrored mine as well. Maybe just order some water next time?
Went into the city this afternoon to run an errand and stopped by Industriel (DTLA) for a late lunch. For $15, we got to choose from 4 appetizers and 4 entrees. We picked the Caesar-style kale salad with bacon dressing, the house Industriel burger, and a smoked salmon sandwich with sprouts, cucumbers, and a matcha goat cheese. We also added the House marinated olives and the pickled vegetables.
Sorry, no photos.
The house marinated olives were delightful. Light and not so heavily brined that you can actually taste the olive. The house pickled vegetables included pickles, a carrot escabeche, and soy-marinated shiitakes. The pickled vegetables were really good, but it was better paired with another item like bread, charcuterie, or cheese…by itself or with the olives, it was pretty astringent.
The kale salad was decent. Loved the crispy lardons in the salad…no need for croutons. My friend really enjoyed her burger…the cheese fondue leaked out and seasoned her side of fries even more. The smoked salmon sandwich was really solid…grilled sourdough, crisp sprouts and cucumbers, and a nice creamy cheese. I liked how the smoked salmon wasn’t too smoky, and you can taste a hint of matcha in the goat cheese.
We both enjoyed our experience here.
agreed. went to WP24 only once but based on the visit, wouldn’t go back. the view isn’t even that great – 71above and the intercontinental are much better, IMO.
went to the Arthur J in Manhattan Beach for a late dinner recently, and I think it absolutely delivered for a DineLA experience. $95 so not cheap, but the portions were very generous and the food well done.
we had a few drinks, all made well by Courtney, who was efficient and friendly.
The Conch Republic (rum with grapefruit and mint), Dezdémona Fate (strawberry with bourbon)
Montreaux Casino (a Manhattan with piped-in oak smoke – very nice)
Mizukane (Gold Rush with Suntory Toki, honey, lemon)
Chopped wedge salad (ordered off regular menu) and DineLA appetizer of beef tartare (we liked this better than the comparable one from Cut in Beverly Hills)
DineLA side of creamed spinach (somewhat salty and rich), regular menu Ricotta Gnocchi (excellent), DineLA main of ribeye (great meat quality but overcooked; we asked for medium rare and it was at least medium if almost well done).
DineLA dessert of monthly cake (almond with fruit). somewhat heavy, would rather go for the other options next time.
Overall a bit uneven but I’ll excuse it as we were there late (past 10:30pm) and it was still busy. would definitely go back even if not DineLA.
That doesn’t even sound good on paper.
Is there sauce on the beater? B/c, otherwise, why?
lol. icing on the beater, which was even better. whimsical, I thought it was a cute touch.
I used to go to Fogo de Chao for DineLA lunch and really enjoyed it. They’ve cheaped out and no longer offer lunch. Too bad.
@nosh I hadn’t even noticed that the lunch option was gone this time. I just got an E-mail today where they are basically offering the DineLA dinner set (sans dessert) for $39…a $10 discount from DineLA…the slivers of cake they offer aren’t worth the extra $10 anyway. Promotion runs through August 30th. Just mention the E-mail promotion (Fogo Restaurant Month).
I like the restaurant. I have a handicapped placard so I could find street parking before noon and avoid the valet. Nice salad bar with beautiful asparagus. Good, respectful service. No problems with the meats.
But I just don’t eat enough anymore to make the AYCE a great option.
