Anything fun in Healdsburg/Guerneville/Elk/the surrounds

Sights: in Fort Bragg, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and Pudding Creek Trestle. Outside of Occidental, Western Hills Garden. Guerneville, Armstrong Redwoods. A bit of a schlep from Fort Bragg but the Avenue of the Giants is fun. Benbow Inn is a nice place to stay nearby and has a surprisingly good restaurant for being so far out in the sticks.

Journeyman Meat Co. makes great ham.

Personally I don’t like Healdsburg any more, too upscale touristy, like Napa and Mendocino. I like Cottages on River Road just outside of Guerneville. I wouldn’t eat there, but the deck at the Hignland Dell Lodge in Monte Rio is a nice place to hang out over a beer or glass of wine on a nice afternoon or evening.

My favorite restaurant in the general area is Diavola in Geyserville. The Bannister tasting room a block or so away is great.

Too bad the Bewildered Pig closed.

Augie’s in Santa Rosa is classic French, a kind of restaurant I love that I’m not sure we currently have in SF / Oakland / Berkeley. I like the Rose Hotel.
