Catching up from some other weekend highlights:
PRD
You can definitely tell the amount of work the team at PRD puts into every order of Hainan Chicken. @JLee and co have turned it into a must order for me every time it’s offered. That might be fueled by scarcity, but when the quality is this high that might not even matter.
Pikunico
On my way out of ROW I remembered that Pikunico recently reopened and wanted to stop by to check in on them. I didn’t have the stomach real estate to order any of their (outstanding) fried chicken, but their Choconut Chip Cookie is low key one of my favorites in the city. I love how it is always slightly underdone in the center. I’ll be back soon to grab some chicken and salads.
Tsubaki / Ototo
I’ve been doing Sake School every Sunday since they started the COVID takeout offering. This week was a bit special because they did a tasting and tour with Brooklyn Kura. The first pour was of their Blue Door tokubetsu junmai nama, and the second was of their Number Fourteen junmai ginjo nama. The former leaned more savory, while the second was lighter and crisp.
In addition, Ototo whipped up a couple New York inspired snacks to include with the tasting. There was a sake and shiso cured salmon with miso cream cheese and furikake bagel chips, as well as a New York style cheesecake.
Also snagged a fig daifuku.
It was RFG.
