Austin BBQ recs

Flying home on a Monday…Terry Black’s is open, but many places are closed (Franklin, La Barbeque, KG BBQ).

Are there any recommended BBQ places open on Mondays?

It seems to be the souvenir that our family likes best when we return home from trips to Austin.

Leroy & Lewis is the best (not sure if they’re open Mondays)

We had time for a single meal by ourselves.

A quick jaunt from the airport and we were parked and in line at La Barbecue. It was after 1PM on a moderate late May day. The line only wrapped around the corner and there were plenty rental umbrellas to shield folks from the sun.

The counter is super small so they really only let one group in at a time. There are vats of ice cold water or you can stroll into the bar for a frosty beverage. The atmosphere is convivial as everyone is happy to be there.

It’s super quick and easy to order. You have plenty of time to make your decision.

We were pretty impressed. Everything was either excellent or well executed. This is our favorite rib in Austin, and the weekend special Chopped Cheese sausage will remind you that the folks in TX can make sausage that’s so perfect! The sleeper hit was the banana pudding…where every element is house made and it is (by far) better than the Magnolia recipe I make at home.

We only had time to pick up Terry Black’s for the return trip home. The family was thrilled and finds it the best souvenir we could bring them.
