Bagels Galore in Rancho Palos Verdes. Springy bagels I love! Can toast, can put schmear on the side if you’re not eating right away, only thing is they close by 12:30p everyday bc they open at 5am! Old school.

interesting about Brooklyn Bagel down on Beverly…Ive been there 2-3 times in the last few Covid years…I thought they were pretty good…maybe you had a bad batch that day…I’ll have to check back…Ive been fairly happy with NYBD on National/Barrington…Usually get the bialy(def different from NY)…Interested to see H&H open soon on Montana!

Those bialys are remnants of what used to be baked at I&Joy. All the former locations that became Manhattan Bagel and then sold out to others, still seemingly make them. In some form or another.

Hard to find an east coast bialy out here. I think the only I have seen would be Goldsteins.

Finally broke down and went to Bagel Boss in Burbank.

@JeetKuneBao So first off let me say they did not have belly lox. They used to but she said they removed them from the menu because no one ordered it and it went bad. I blame all the places that did the old bait and switch bringing people up to think that lox is smoked. No one knows about this delicacy when it used to be the ONLY thing. Shame on all of them .

Now on to the bagels.

Large. Not very crispy on the outside but chewy inside. But the texture is off. They remind me of an oversized Western Bagel. They were slightly, (hmmm…searching for the word… )I guess doughy. They weren’t bad. But I wouldn’t drive for them. If they were in my neighborhood, I would go. I did not toast any, but my guess is that would help a lot.

@lapizzamaven They did have a bialy in the shape of a traditional bialy.

But it was chewy, didn’t have that flour on it And instead of a pile of minced onions it had sweet caramelized onion… jam?

The best thing was the pumpernickel bagel. Now THAT was good. They also had an everything pumpernickel.

Saw signage for Boichik Bagels opening up in the old Subway spot in the Bradbury Building in DTLA

That is news and quite the upgrade! I can’t believe how hard it is to get a good breakfast to go in DTLA, especially with the closing of Burrito Break. RIP!!

H&H Bagels on Montana Ave (Santa Monica) opens February 26.

I’m not up to date on this thread. How does H&H compare to other bagel joints in SM/BW:
Pop’s, Sam’s, Layla, Jyan Isaac, Bagel Nosh, etc

It’s no Bagel Hole.

H&H is a New York institution. Can’t compare to other LA bagel places until it’s open.

You are so right. Boichik would instantly be the best breakfast in DTLA.

H&H is scoffed at by bagel enthusiasts in NY. Big puffy bagels. They are not good.

Wifey brought me some from NYC. Reminded me of Noah’s. Yeah, no.
