Birdie G's

Yeah, they changed it.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Fox cuts ties with the RC group.

Is this based on intel or just a hunch? I know Fox is not an owner of RC group but he’s definitely been the most visible face of it for a long time. It would be a pretty big blow to the group if he split.

Wouldn’t it also involve cutting ties with…Rustic Canyon itself?

yeah, him cutting ties with the RC family seems like a stretch. they’re seemingly the most successful restaurant group in Santa Monica, even with the recent closures. Fox is chef/owner of both Birdie G’s and Rustic Canyon and a partner at RC family.

Hunch. Word is that the revenue sharing structure and the partner requirements make it challenging to break even in this market.

if he leaves Rustin Canyon, that restaurant will CLOSE in 2-3 years I guarantee.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Birdie G’s reopens in a smaller space with easier parking.

Wish it would take the empty Margot’s on Montana Ave…

Anyone who didn’t go tonight missed a fucking banger

We went last night and it was also a banger. Classic cold fried chicken from Momofuku Ko Bar (now served hot and dipped in frank’s red hot). Elijah’s dishes from Rustic Canyon were excellent also. Pretty great value for all the food. It’s a one night collab so not everything is going to be a hit, but people should take a chance on some chefs they don’t know. If I was in town I’d be going to Beau Schooler’s night. The big names might be sold out, but they were taking walk-ins on Monday night.

Rumor on the street is that Birdie G might reopen in the future at a different location (possibly Century City)… Again, this is just a rumor at this time - stay tuned.

Century City? Bleh…

They should reopen (if at all) near Milo & Olive but on the Brentwood side of the SM/LA border.

Other than if it is in the Shopping Center or the former Craft space, Century City would present even worse parking woes than the current location. Unless Sprout is holding onto it for other purposes, the Rose space could work as it is empty, has a great kitchen area, and has its own lot in addition to street parking; though perhaps the Rose is a bigger footprint than Birdie G’s might want.

I recall hearing how much rent is for the Rose space - I can’t remember if I read it on here or heard it from a friend - but it’s a giant sum. There’s no way they want a space that big and expensive. Somewhere on Wilshire or Santa Monica Blvd, 90049 zip, with plenty of street parking, would fit the bill.

I think you might be on to something.. If he targeted the CAA crowd that went to Craft. It could work. He’s have to expand the menu and staff but I could see it

Birdie G’s would also be much closer to a historically Jewish part of town in Centry City

I used to work in Century City, just a minute down from Craft on the same street. 6 years ago, it would have been a great spot to open per your thesis. But corporate dining culture has been decimated since COVID and the resulting proliferation of work from home. Hinoki & the Bird is still kicking, but it is starkly less busy at lunchtime and happy hour than it was pre-COVID.

Man I thought they’d go culver

I have a reservation for 4 tomorrow (Friday 12/12) at 7:45 PM, does anyone want it before I cancel? Regular menu not Hanukkah prix fixe. Normally wouldn’t post about a Birdie G’s reservation - not historically a hot commodity - but they are fully booked through the last day of service on Dec 20.

I went last night and was truly disapointed. They’ve given up. No manager on site, and our order came (in full - apps and main) about 5 minutes after ordering. Extremely limited menu - no sides except fries.

I have a reservation for Saturday (2 at 7:30) that I may cancel unless someone wants it, but was told there will be an even shorter menu that night.

One bright spot, the drinks menu:
