for people that have spent time living in Germany and surrounding countries, Döner Kebab is a very specific thing, which now finally exists in oakland!
currently only chicken or oyster mushroom options, but beef and lamb are soon coming
importantly, the owner has got:
- the correct bread!
- the correct Döner Kebab wrapping paper!
- more or less the correct sauce and cabbage/lettuce/tomato combination
despite it being with chicken, this is already 80% of an ‘authentic’ Döner Kebab
478 25th St, Oakland, CA 94612
open tuesday-sunday, but their operation is not yet a smooth machine

When I read about it last month I was excited until I got to the only chicken and mushroom part. Looking forward to trying it when he adds lamb.

Finally a decent doner place in the US ? But they should really move away from chicken which is really the least requested meat in Germany.
Is the bread slightly toasted outside to have a bit of texture ?

yes, the bread is toasted such that there is a very faint crunch on the outside - it is 100% legit döner bread!
i too was skeptical of chicken, having never had a chicken döner in the course of the hundreds i have consumed, but between the bread and the wrapping paper, the mind can do some work to fill in the remainder, and the curried chicken actually works pretty okay
