Blind baking without beans

Need to blind bake my pie crust, but I foolishly purged my old beans recently. Do you think marbles would work? Rice?

Stella Parks (“Bravetart”) recommends using sugar as you then end up with toasted sugar.

I have done this and it works, however it doesn’t come out quite as toasted as the recipe, so I reuse the sugar a couple of times until it is perfect.

Agreed it is great. I am working on her apple pie recipe tonight. Someone else is making pumpkin pie which I am dubious about as Stella’s recipe is insanely good.
Although I like Daniel Gritzer seriouseats.com went way downhill when it got sold and Kenji and Stella left. Not as bad as roadfood.com or the late, sort of lamented, chowhounds.com, but definitely not what it used to be.
Whatever the sugar thing works.
