the menu turns over pretty frequently so don’t wait around if you really want to try something!

my school-study schedule is taking up almost all of my time; maybe i’d have better luck emailing chef giles and begging for the recipe.

My first bite was like half the mustard and some cabbage, great little clearinghouse moment and a nice interlude after the fennel salad. Potato chunk after onto the beef, onto the pork and ginger, onto the beet break it down!

Yeah it does, clam chowder was my last visits new addition. Wonder how they’re coordinating menus/ingredients with YESS

Also they were PACKED when I went around 11:30 last midweek, great to see, hope word continues traveling

I took a girlfriend out for a belated birthday lunch - this spot worked well as she has an office gig in DTLA. She had the BLT to great delight. I had some kind of salad that was mostly cukes and deseeded peppers. [full disclosure, I thought it would be a different kind of salad, and was disconcerted by what I got.]

I also got the lemonade (delicious), and we shared the matcha canelé, slice of the cherry tart, and the fennel choc chip cookie. The canelé was my favorite, and the cookie suffered from dramatic bad choc chip distribution. My half had almost no chocolate, so it tasted like a slightly sweet piece of bread with fenel. I don’t know what flavors the cookie was intended to have.

All in, before tip it was just under $50. I enjoyed my food, and will go back to explore other items. For anyone trying to picture where this place is, it’s two doors down from Pizzanista and diagonally across the street from Everson Royce Bar.

Had fritters and manganji salad with a whey lemonade the other day, merguez & fries was sold through hoping to order

Did anyone try the watermelon cake? Noticed it crossed out on the menu when I went

No but it was really beautiful in the case! Looks like a 3 or 4" thick layer of watermelon in between cake layers

Just popped in for lunch - I’m obsessed with this place. Interesting menu, clearly changes often, very very very low prices. Service for a counter spot was lovely.

Corn fritters and borscht highlights. Great Hojicha. Will update with dessert shortly

:o Have been meaning to come here for a while now. Can I get a vibe check? Is it really a casual cafe? I hate to be that person, but what about like ordering breakfast and laptop working or reading (maybe upstairs away from everyone) and then ordering lunch; maybe on a Tuesday when it’s quiet. Would that be cool or is it much more formal than that?

Lotta people hanging upstairs on their laptop. Of course - lots of cool kids rocking fits too. But I went with my wife, baby, and stroller and we hung out for quite a while and it was chill even though she let out a few cries.

Edit: and we were definitely not formal considering the spit-up on my shirt
