Thanks to at EaterLA, I was inspired to try Campo É Carbón. It’s just a short jaunt from where I live so why not?
Once you arrive (park by the nearby school for easy and plentiful parking), you stroll into a resort-style backyard. Sparkling pool, waning sunset of the day, music playing and an outdoor kitchen as the center of the of it all.
The staff is casual, but welcoming. Menus placed at each setting so you have time to peruse before making your choices.
This is a delayed post as we went back in April. Things are getting settled, and I wasn’t entirely surprised that some cocktails were served in pint-sized deli containers cups. I did not mind one bit at all since the cocktails were delicious.
I will say that I’m most struck by the vegetable dishes here. Cooked extraordinarily well and garnished with delightful components. And you all know that I adore a good vegetable dish. My only complaint was that each vegetable dish included a form of yogurt so it was a touch redundant.
Spouted cauliflower - lemon, garlic, yogurt
Snap peas - labne, olive oil, mint, crispy quinoa
Octopus a la brasa - carrot hummus, chile morita, chicharron gremolata, confit tomato (this was a really great dish…I believe I still see it on the menu so it might turn into a signature dish)
Crab Alfredo - garlic, mentaiko, lemon, chile threads (made with udon, this was rich and a little gloppy to me…I ate about 4-5 bites and gave up)
Not pictured: crudo (good, but more acidic than I personally prefer), marlin taco (really nice bite, but doesn’t come close to the heights of Sergio and 106 Underground), Korean-ish short rib (a nice dish)
@monaeats showed up after us and was seated at the table nearby. She raved about the crudo and octopus on her best dishes eaten during the week.
We had a good experience, but haven’t been free to return to see the progression.
They also offer a casual weekend brunch on occasion.
