The Capital Seafood on La Cienega has become a branch of Mama Lu’s. The main sign has changed to reflect the new name, though the Capital Seafood name shares space with Mama Lu’s on a banner. The menu also says Mama Lu’s now.

Last fall a Mama Lu’s Dumpling section appeared on the Capital Seafood menu so this was another drawn out takeover (or collaboration) like CBS Seafood in Chinatown.

Perhaps a silly questions, but what are the items to get a Mama Lu’s? I had some takeout today from the Alhambra location (former Jiang Nan Spring), and, while tasty, I didn’t think it was anything particularly revelatory (no pics b/c I was eating w/ parents at home).
The “knot” part of the XLB was pretty dough; the Chow Mein noodles seemed kind of square-shaped, which led to kind of weird mouthfeel (I would’ve preferred the thin noodles, but my father ordered thick since I normally love thick); the wrapper for the beef roll was so difficult to chew (although beautiful in appearance) that I actually warned my parents.
The food was far from bad, but I was kind of underwhelmed. Did I order wrong?

Probably not. I think “far from bad” and not “particularly revelatory” are fair takes on the food, at least at the Beverly Hills location.
