Coffee beans worth a drive

Are you really asking me to explain why my behavior didn’t comport with your expectations of my behavior? Is it really that hard to imagine some situational reasons I didn’t ask for an explanation? Or is the implication that I don’t understand the brewing intentions of the infallible Dayglow?

Also tedious to discuss this with you from an evaluative perspective. Outstanding with phenomenal character are vague platitudes that give me little window into what you’re tasting or why you like it.

Any recs on decaf beans that people are liking? Just made the switch about 6 months ago to mostly decaf been doing moonwake and familiar coffee roasters recently, but looking to branch out more.

I generally like the one we get delivered from Tectonic

We’ve been doing half-caff chez moi and have enjoyed Joshua Tree Coffee Co., Groundworks, Counter Culture – fairly basic, middle of the road choices, but they offer parallel de/caff roasts so we’re not making our own blends.

are you ordering moonwake or is there somewhere in LA that carries it??!

if you’re into the hyperprocessed coffees (ie high acidity/fruit), all of the colombian process wizards (diego bermudez, nestor lasso, etc.) make pretty interesting decaf, particularly when the roaster is of good quality (but pay attention to roast dates - decaf is more sensitive to going stale); dak (https://www.dakcoffeeroasters.com/shop) has in the past had a tremendous low-cafe bean, but this was pretty great (wilton benitez, one of the columbian process wizards)
Rainbow Cocktail - Colombia Decaf

cafe quality can fluctuate with staff being new, also tends to be much more variable if you’re not a regular at a place and know the person making your coffee cares consistently…

another one to consider for ordering:

i see dayglow’s online selection is out of this world, including friedhats (very good roaster i would tend to trust):

Singing espressos from Dayglow. I almost always like A more than B.

Just went to Ondo and really enjoyed their Gesha pour over - very delicate fruit and acidity.
Not far away from there, Lab Coffee is my favorite.
My current favorite is House Roots Coffee in Granda Hills (of all places) - amazing Ethiopia Acacia.

Did you ask for an explanation lol?

I have to say I much prefer your genuine comments to the trolling you sometimes fall into on here.

Super wild guess…traditional 9 bar vs turbo shot

Agreed, that’s why I always go to Endorffeine since the person making my coffee never changes there.

All I can suggest is keep trying it. You’ll surely like it after 100 or more visits.

Tangential data point: I stopped drinking coffee (two cups of strong drip every morning for many years) because it was giving me heartburn. My blood pressure went way down. There’s no medical consensus that this is a thing but if you have high blood pressure you might try going off caffeine for a while.

But it’s a core part of my existence….

Starting a subscription for the “Quat” blend at Loquat for 1KG at 40/month.

Any other leads on bigger bags for retail coffee that I can just go pick up, rather than get shipped? Preference for shops from DTLA to Pasadena.

They sell kilo bags? News to me, but I haven’t been there in a while

Definitely out of your way in Culver city but I love the Conservatory for Coffee and tea. It’s a classic early 3nd wave shop. 6 to 8 varieties on hand roast small batches several times a week. Mostly medium city roast. They’ll weigh out whatever size bag you want and have lots of small restaurants /offices that buy from them
