Coffee beans worth a drive

I also like The Conservatory for non-fruity, roasty but tasty coffee.

Oliboli uses conservatory beans. Not that you need another reason to go there.

I used to work at Sony prepandamic and used to frequent it. So happy they’re still in business and weren’t forced out.

I really only go every 2 weeks to buy coffee because I’m west of the 405 but if he sees me he always remembers my name, just love the personal owner operator hospitality. He was super cautious during the pandemic, they eventually turned their front door into a togo pass through window.
He has stuck with USDA organic green coffee to roast as well because he believes in it even though at times shipping delays at the port have really hurt the availability in the shop.

I got the Rwanda natural even though the bourbon has nothing to do with whiskey. I’ll try the Ethiopia Bensa Bombe the next time.

Glitch Coffee (Tokyo) is popping up at Ondo Coffee this weekend. Parking around Melrose is pretty rough

How did you find out? It’s not on Ondo’s Insta. Glitch is much sought after Japanese roaster.

It’s on their most recent post - The Ultimate Guide to Espresso on Instagram: "GLITCH + ONDO this weekend! crazy fun tasting experience some wild coffees @glitch_coffee @ondocoffee.co"

It is!

What do you guys recommend? I’m heading to the Hammer Museum but might try to stop by afterwards

Edit: I’ll stop by here first. Anything good for breakfast here nearby? Vegan of vegetarian

Maybe Lulu at the Hammer at 11:30? Kind of the obvious.

You’re right—toning down the hype can make the writing feel more grounded and authentic. Here’s a revised version with a more measured tone:

I finally got to try Glitch Coffee and sampled their Finca Milan. The flavor profile was exactly as described—smooth, creamy, with notes of vanilla and peach. Interestingly, I later realized I’d had the same bean from Wes Ngopi before. While the flavors were similar, Wes Ngopi’s roast is more structured, with hints of Longan tea. Both were excellent, and I tend to avoid highly processed coffee. By the way, Wes Ngopi offers three out of the four beans listed on Glitch’s menu, excluding the Chinese one. Their prices are better, and they offer free shipping on orders over 500 grams, approximately.

On another note, the arrival of a new shipment has caught my attention, highlighting a fascinating roaster, Ou bai tou ri. The name is based on the concept that people should focus on their personal development rather than comparing themselves to others—a fitting name, in my opinion. One of their beans, the El Paraiso Geisha Sake, sounds quite intriguing—I’m now kicking myself for not picking it up!

First time trying beans from India and Liberica beans. My wife’s cousin gifted us with the bag. Very nice. Prefer natural and not dark roast. Would buy again. Anybody ever see these beans around town? Can’t seem to find anything about them online.

Not these particular beans but sometimes we get Indian coffee beans “delivered” from Indian friends and relatives. There is definitely a coffee scene evolving in India

Forgot to mention this but went to Dayglow a few weeks ago

Hands down they have the most options for pour overs than anywhere else. That includes NYC and SF. Still haven’t tried their fun drinks because they do great pour overs and cortados.

Some new shops to me:
Obet’s and Del in Thai Town. Wanted to go here but couldn’t find parking on Hollywood or on the sides. Should have just bit the bullet for valet at Ruen Pair/Bhan Kanom plaza. Anyone try? Love the aesthetics and tribute to Thai/Filipino culture.

Continue to dig the stuff Ondo is doing, including starting their own roasting program. They always bring in awesome beans, too - I picked up a very cool bag from Dak the other day.
