Coffee beans worth a drive

Oh sick! I heard Dave Pajo is playing with Michael Rother at The Broad on Saturday. Can’t make that one but maybe Sunday I can.

I saw Jeff Parker play with Billy Mohler a couple weeks ago at a Minaret show. It was awesome.

Really digging the beans from Takagi on W.3rd. So-so food program but their beans are roasted in-house and run between 12-15 dollars per pound. A bargain for the quality.

Conservatory Coffee in Culver City is a great family run place. Saw a lot of regulars coming in with their own cups. Dad and I think his 2 daughters one of which just got engaged. Only knew bc she was showing one the regulars her ring and came around the counter for a hug. Good vibes in the place and they have excellent beans.

Everything croissant had a nice cream cheese surprise in the middle. Grabbed a bag or their organic espresso to bring home. Oliboli Donuts uses their beans.

Have a conference next week at the Conrad DTLA and need to be there by 9am. What’s the best coffee shop in DTLA? Endorfeine doesn’t open until 9am. I won’t have time to go to Los Feliz or surrounding areas.

GGET and donut man?
Kumquat?
Bonus if they have good pastries

Kumquat! And they do have good pastries.

You named most of the options that I know of in that area. Kumquat and Endorffeine are the best of those IMO. There is also Blue Bottle across from GCM, which I think is better than GGET (I’m not a big fan of GGET for drip, though it’s fine for espresso), but not as good as Kumquat and Endorffeine.

The best option for me would be San Laurel in your hotel: stone fruit montadito + drip coffee. The coffee isn’t as good as Kumquat / Endorffeine, but it’s good enough, and the much better food and convenience make up for it.

Cognoscenti is good too, but less convenient. You’re not going to go wrong at G&B at GCM either.

If traffic isn’t bad I’ll probably go to Kumquat but good to know there is a decent option in the hotel. Thanks.

Absolutely beautiful Art-Deco! Not too far away is the Bradbury Building and Angel’s Flight. You can indulge in some architecture and LA history.

Aquarela x Bakers Bench is a another option as well

Couldn’t find any parking at Kunquat. Didn’t realize it was in the same building as the Jonathan Club. Had to pivot and went to GCM for GGET and donut man.

Nobu Coffee in Gardena. They have a IG page and some Yelp reviews. Seems like a unique experience
