Weekend getaway. Temperatures in the 90s headed north on the 101 freeway early. Stopped at Santa Clause Lane and headed to Carpinteria. Just 20 minutes south of Santa Barbara. After walking around we decided on The Nugget Bar and Grill on Linden Ave. Given my food allergies I was pleasantly surprised that they fry their fries in 100% pure beef tallow. Good selection on bottled wines and cocktails. We drank five dollar margaritas and Lemondrop martinis till the prime rib was ready. Stayed the night in Carpinteria and even came back to The Nugget for brunch. French toast and Pork Chile Verde was outstanding.

$5 margs and lemon drops… bookmarked for the next time I’m road tripping through! I visited Dang Burger (right around the corner) last time and they also offered beef tallow fries, which tasted quite different from the versions I’ve had in LA.
