Dine LA 2025

It’s coming back jan 24- feb 7. Anyone planning to eat out? Majordomo is participating for the first time

The Majordomo meal for $65 seems pretty good but I would prefer to order from the menu and probably be close to that range (as long as we don’t order the short ribs).

Happened to be helping out at SMC today and honestly had no idea Dine LA had started. We had already decided to try Willie Mae’s after I was done and was so happy to see that their two piece and two side set was included in Dine LA for a great price!

The best part of this deal is that it’s for lunch and dinner… and on the weekends!

I really enjoyed the chicken. I opted for the dark meat (they do give you a choice) and was happy that it was that wonderful batter type of coating. Super crisp and it did have decent heat. the meat was super juicy and well seasoned. It was a bit on the salty side, so it reminded me of a less greasy Golden Bird. I would put this a notch above Gus’

For my sides I chose Mac and cheese and Cabbage. The Mac N cheese is the casserole type, so not super creamy but with great cheese flavor and a touch of heat! No hot sauce needed! The Cabbage was a surprise hit. It had the flavors of Collards without the bitterness. The liquid was so flavorful, I dipped the last of my corn bread in it.

The corn bread was perhaps my favorite bite. It was flavorful, tender, buttery and not dry in the least. I saw a table ordered a small plate of them. That is the play here.

P ordered the Po’Boy. It was good. Especially for the price. Even Orleans and York is charging like $22 bucks for theirs now and no sides. We wanted to try their Gumbo which was a very reasonable $5 add on (the $15 included one of their regular sides, the small side of Gumbo is usually $10). The weakest part of the Po’Boy was the bread. The Gumbo portion was small but well composed. It even included a small bit of crab for flavor.

The lemonade was also super good. SWEET. But obviously house made. The format of the restaurant allows to for easy to go orders, but the deal is part of their dine in section where orders are taken at the table. The service is casual but warm, with few people keeping things humming. So you may have to stay on top of certain things, but our food came out in good time and never felt abandoned.

GCM is also having Dine LA Specials and Wexler is including their thin cut Mikey for $15. So going to
be trying that next!

I love salt, especially salty fried stuff, but my chicken at Venice Willie Mae’s (wonder why they dropped the “Scotch House” from the NOLA name) was barely edible with an INSANE saltiness. I’d be willing to retry if its been toned down to just “a bit on the salty side.” That dark roux gumbo was indeed pretty good.

Oh my! I am actually quite sensitive to salt and can’t do golden bird or other fast food style chicken anymore because of it and did not find Willie Mae’s to be quite at that level. Perhaps I just got lucky.

I think they’re just inconsistent with the salt levels at the Venice location: I’ve had salt bombs there on two occasions and normal/decent salt levels on one other visit.

Zaytinya is offering a very good 5 course (with choices) Dine LA meal for $55. The Garides (shrimp) was the highlight, especially using the puffy fresh baked pita to scoop it up with the sauce. Only complaint was that all the courses (other than dessert) dropped almost all at once.
