Dinner after Broad Museum

I hear you.

I’d be down with a L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon.

The thing I didn’t articulate - I want a restaurant with good food, okay price point, and it has a rigorous understanding 80% of its business isn’t driven by the food. It’s driven by it’s location, and the desire to share a meal before an event. For me, Asterid does not understand this.

P.F. Changs in a mall understands this. However, I have never invested in restaurants or in any kind of business in downtown LA, and have no understanding of how these decisions are made.

Until then, I will likely eat closer to my house, then go to DTLA, park once, do my activities, then toddle home.

DIning before an event raises a different set of considerations and priorities than dining after.

DTLA could do with a Birdie G’s or Rustic Canyon type restaurant. I don’t want tinned fish, nor my only options to be lamb or a $200 steak. I’m spoiled by Santa Monica - so many options.

Nic and Steph’s is walkable, the italian spot next to the Broad & Alto if you’re not up for San Laurel. Been awhile since I have been to any of these places but they weren’t mentioned yet and all are right there.

Bar Ama is my move- some happy hour vibes before a show or seat at the bar after

Nick and Steph’s is a good choice. I have a few people in my life who can be slow, cautious walkers. Their caution makes me tighten up, and I typically don’t suggest places that far from the Music Center. They do have decent food, though.

Nick and Stef’s is a really good idea. I forgot about it.

I’m so happy to hear that Bar Ama is still in business - I used to go all the time (and Woodspoon and Pattern Bar)

Criteria: Park once (walkable within a few blocks), not too casual, near the Broad/Disney/Chandler complex…

San Laurel
Nick + Stef’s
Vespaio
Abernethy’s
Hill Street Bar & Grill
NOÉ Restaurant & Bar (inside the Omni Hotel)
Kippered (take the Angels Flight funicular up and down that hill to save a few steps)
Maccheroni Republic

(… not recommending Kendall’s - It’s just not enjoyable IMHO)

Longer walk: Settecento, Drago Centro

More casual: Grand Central Market, of course…

We booked Nick + Stef’s. Neither of us have been there. Thanks, all. This is exactly why this board/community is so great.

Update: Nick+Stef’s was perfect. We loved our meal (martinis + filet + mashed potatoes + broccolini + caesar) Terrific all around (excellent service) and steps from The Broad.

Get to the Gibson show, it’s fantastic. Next Thursday at 7pm, the 22nd, they’re putting on a dance exhibition that is part of the show from the Venice Biennale. I’m going back, with Happy Hour at Nick+Stef’s beforehand.

First mention I have seen here of settecento. What did you think? The location really sells it for me. Evening dining under chandeliers in the park, downtown. We have stopped to enjoy the live music more than once after an afternoon at the library.

Glad to hear the Gibson show is worth the squeeze.
