Been lusting after the pate en croute at Lastre Sans Apostrophe for years. Dare I say it’s the best I’ve had? Lots of different textures happening and the pastry retains its crisp. Got the duck+foie, fermier, and the pork+cabbage. Unexpected winner was the custard tart, it barely holds together and the contrast with the crust was ![]()
Have you been to Maison Nico in SF?
I have not, will consider for our next visit to SF! Their prices are much higher than Lastre Sans Apostrophe though ![]()
good stuff, Lastre is always great. nearby is also Marie-Ann Cantin fromagerie.
It’s great, and I like their holiday offerings, especially, and have their wellington lined up for Christmas.
but for pâté en croûte, in my limited experience, I’d rank it like:
Lastre Sans Apostrophe / Arnaud Nicolas
Maison Verot
Maison Nico
Alliance from our first night. Excellent meal despite barely hanging on from the jet lag. Service on point, would return again.

Beautiful plates!
So glad you enjoyed Alliance.
Alliance is one of our favorite places in Paris, it is one of our must visit places. Shawn runs it so well! If you have time, check out Alliance Cave they have around the corner for wine and bread.
We did not have time… or stomach space
My wife was dying and we skipped dinner the last two nights
Cypsele by Marcin Krol was kind of a gamble, new opening with a some international hype from W50Best which I don’t put a lot of stock in. However it was close to the hotel so we ended up keeping the reservation and having a fun meal. It wasn’t super busy on a Thursday, so I don’t think they’ve got much local visibility. Menu is constantly evolving, but was quite light and the final main of different lamb cuts from a whole animal was excellent. Service was uneven, but it’s still early days.
Table by Bruno Verjus. Lots of fun, but very expensive for what you get IMO. Would go to Maison 2x for similar cost instead
. Very nice staff, and good hospitality. A ton a food, perhaps too much? ![]()
Historic rooms for lunch! Le Train Bleu and the Alain Ducasse restaurant in Musee D’Orsee. Solid food, great environment
Rum Baba was way better at the Alain Ducasse restaurant, unsurprisingly.
Le Train Bleu and their signature lamb leg.
Go see the Sargent special exhibit at the Musee D’Orsee
M d’O is such an amazing museum. Love how open and airy it feels, the room of the restaurant looks stunning! Food looks great too, what is in that Brussels sprouts dish? Is that spaetzle
It’s not spaetzle from my recollection, they’re small size croutons and cockles. Dish description: John Dory fillet, cockles, leek, and cabbage. Grenoble-style vinaigrette. It was a nice lighter option after eating a lot at Table the night before.
