Recently opened on Broadway at 23rd, next to Drake’s Dealership. I got the Tamil lamb dosa ($14), comes with coconut and tomato chutneys and sambar, I added the cilantro mint chutney (50¢). Everything was delicious. Each item had its own spice mix and the flavors were all big and bold. Some of the best Indian food I’ve had in a restaurant. Nothing struck me as wildly spicy at first, but when I was done I definitely knew I’d eaten a significant amount of chiles.
I tasted my companion’s sag paneer rice bowl. It was quite mild and light on the sag, basically paneer sauced with a little greens. Personally I prefer Udupi Palace’s version, which is a big bowl with lots of spicy greens.
Order at the counter and take a number. Full bar. Open 8am to 10pm daily, I think.
On our way out I saw one of the cooks making a chile uttapam, which is not on the menu (yet, anyway).
