Duende - Oakland Uptown

Reopened recently. As good as ever. Solid service.

Salt cod rice croquettes, like arancini, with preserved lemon aioli and padrone peppers. Excellent.

Coca with runny egg, boquerones, something spicy, I forget what else. Surprising combination, delicious.

Also had the cabbage salad and a paella with rabbit, clams, beans, etc. There was a little socarrat, next time I’ll ask them to let it go a little longer.

I heard Paul is opening a French restaurant based on the food of Occitanie. Can’t remember but I think that’s the name too.

Cabbage salad tasty and refreshing as always.

Good version of patatas bravas.

Paella with seafood sausage and squid ink was very good. I forgot to ask them to cook it longer but there was a little soccarat around the edge.

Classic flan.

Duende Burger: lamb & beef burger + oveja al romero cheese-stuffed piquillo + tomato jam + house-made kennebec potato chips $19

Really good. Ordered, served, and ate during intermission of a jazz show upstairs and only missed a minute or two of the first piece in the second set. Will for sure order again.
