Elkano in Getaria

Elkano really lived up to the hype. The food is delicious and portioned nicely (as opposed to some the places we have previously eaten at. How do the Spanish eat so much food?). The wine list is nice with a broad range including some gems. We opted for a 2023 Rodrigo Mendes Cies Albariño. Really lovely, somewhat elegant wine at a great bargain. I’m in the camp that will usually avoid tasting menus. That said, the tasting at Elkano seems to be the way to go. The service is what you would expect. From Angel the somm to the staff/runners, everyone was friendly and engaging. The server overhead my girl talking about coffee ice cream and brought her an extra scoop. The food is presented somewhat plainly but artfully. The utensils and plates are also pretty cool. Gabriel glas stems for those that care. There is a lot of food and the service is tailored to your desired pacing. Our lunch was 4 hours. Here is the menu https://carta.restauranteelkano.com

Except for the fish, those portions look tiny.

That’s why it’s called a tasting menu. Like last night, at a Tapas bar in Jaca, we ordered a media portion of tomato. It was stupid (and delicious) how big the portion was. We left a few slices on the plate. A 5€ chees plate, also media, had 10 slices of various cheeses. I’m not complaining, the qpr in Spain is incredible.
