Epicurus Gourmet (North Hollywood) - The New Epicure Imports

Are these flavors popular in Spain? They also have jamon iberica potato chips (which was so rich and buttery that I could only taste fat, as opposed to the actual pig part).

I do not like the jamon iberico chips they just taste weird.

I was there today too. We must have just missed each other. You didn’t post the new conservas (which I didn’t take a picture of). There is a whole rack of conservas now. I just wish my wife liked them…

Damn. I am going to have to try those Sun Udon Noodles…

Last time I was there they had a new French brand of tinned fish that was around half the price of the fancier stuff. The baby mackerel were great and the mixed seafood was pretty good.

Tasted a few of these on trips to La Española:

  • The fois gras chips are kinda gross.
  • The iberico chips taste like rancid fat
  • Cured cheese a little funky/artificial tasting.
  • Pimenton not as good as you’d imagine.
  • Black truffle chips are not bad. And I typically detest truffle-ized products.
  • Plain olive oil, fine.
  • “Mediterranean Salt” - I don’t get. Very similar to plain.

I :hearts: the foie gras chips.

It’s not clear that there"s any difference except the packaging.

Nice find! I’ve never seen their website.

I’ll have to check out Caviar and Fried Egg for the sake of completeness.

Speaking of egg: at the risk of a thread hijacking I do fancy those Irvin’s Salted Duck Egg chips in a guilty pleasure sort of way. They’re certainly pricey enough to be sold at Epicurus.

Irvin’s salted egg salmon skin chips are good but surprisingly filling. We haven’t finished the bag I bought in February.

The salmon skin is pretty tasty but that large size is intimidating.

They seem to keep fine.

I did not enjoy my first few bites of the iberica chips but then, w/o warning, it’s like i got over the fatty taste and started to actually crave them. It was really weird. i think I’d like the olive oil ones.

Fried egg??? What in the world would be a fried egg flavor. And wouldn’t caviar just taste like… tasty (edit: salty) chips? You’ll def need to do a report for us.

The fried egg ones are only OK (at best) and the flavor doesn’t really resemble fried eggs but have a very unique, hard to describe taste along the lines of umami mixed with some cheese and little bit of funk (the truffles ones are still overall the best)

Just used the olive oil chips and some leftover caramelized onions in one of those low-effort Ferran Adria Tortilla Españolas. Worked super well!

I’m fat and have no self-control, so I can practically finish the bag in one sitting… So I try to not to buy them often.

They are 85% of your daily value of cholesterol. And that’s for whatever tiny size they determine to be a “serving”
I’ve admittedly eaten way too many of those in a sitting…

They’re 50% fat (a 28-gram one-ounce serving has 14 grams of fat). That explains why I find them so filling.

There’s little reason to worry about dietary cholesterol. If you eat a lot of saturated fat your liver will synthesize it.

Heads up, just got an email saying they have black truffles in stock at $58 per oz.

Yes Hillary told me about them today. They are Australian black winter truffles.
