Epicurus Gourmet (North Hollywood) - The New Epicure Imports

I saw and bought some Diamond Crystal Kosher salt at LAX-C a couple months back. It was on an end aisle but their stock can vary somewhat so not sure if that’s a frequent item there

We get ours at Penzeys.

Most kosher butchers/grocery stores will have it.

I just picked it up from the Costco Business Center down the street from Epicurus. Also picked up a 95% dark chocolate from Epicurus I’m keen to try.

Maldon competitor?

Diamond Crystal isn’t a finishing salt like Maldon. I like Jacobsen from Oregon if you’re looking for another one to try. It really is excellent, different texture than the Maldon but I prefer it.

My friend just spotted at Trader Joes as a New Item!!! $8.99 a box, which is standard going rate.

This new flakey version makes it seem like they’re making the move to finishing salt. Never mind - it’s just a fancier label and new pricing. :frowning:

From looking at their site, I don’t think it’s anymore flakey than it was from the past. They are just highlighting an attribute that already made it different from Mortons…

Management change at Epicurus; Hillary and Eric are gone. Not sure what is going on. They went viral on Tik Tok and Instagram. As a result stock is depleted, especially charcuterie and cheese.
Will check back next week.

Oh, no! I really appreciated Hillary, I hope it was amicable.

Oh no!! I always thought they were ownership (based on nothing). I also hope it was amicable, and I hope this doesn’t mean negative changes for Epicurus. Please do report back if you learn anything next week.

What post went viral? Not seeing anything on IG

I don’t have any social media accounts so I am just going on what the new management said. The old staff did tell me they went viral on Tik Tok.

I don’t think it was. Sigh.

I’m pretty sure Eric was/is the owner.

I have not been there awhile but loved talking to both Hillary and Eric. I also thought they were co-owners and there were other partners too. Eric would do saturday wine tastings and was always gracious by including random folks (such as myself) if they had any interest!
Very unfortunate!

No he was a co-owner. There was a silent partner who apparently put up most of the money. Hillary was an employee.
I don’t know what happened, but the silent partner has now spoken. When I asked about Eric and Hillary being involved in the the future he responded, “We shall see”. Which I take to mean ‘no way’. As I mentioned they went viral on TikTok, and the owner also claimed happened on Instagram which was debunked above.
I really don’t know. I will check back later this week.
