Epicurus Gourmet (North Hollywood) - The New Epicure Imports

I stopped in yesterday and the chocolate inventory has continued to grow – they were unpacking chocolate products that were just hitting their shelves for the first time. Hillary also mentioned they had more new products in the back that are not on the floor yet. The chocolate selection is starting to remind me of the earlier days of their conserva selection. It’s pretty exciting but dangerous for the wallet.

The conserva selection, for its part, has continued to grow as well. Several new brands I had not see there before.

I stopped by Epicurus today. I was so excited to see that Hilary and Eric are back. I had not been in since early last year. Like many of you I thought their departure and the “change in ownership” seemed really strange. They shared the sordid tale. What a nightmare. Glad to see that they are bringing it back to life. I knew something did not add up so was glad to have the mystery solved and good people back in charge!

Stopped in today to buy a gift certificate for my niece’s birthday. Left after spending $75 besides the gift certificate. It’s Orthodox Lent so I didn’t buy any cheese or charcuterie or the damage would have tripled.

They are definitely firing on all cylinders. The place is spotless, hello Hillary is back, and the inventory is stunning. I am not a licorice fan, but my wife and sisters-in-law are addicts. The first thing I encountered on walking in was a display rack with possibly 100 different kinds of licorice. I should have taken a picture. This is probably Eric’s doing as is the ever expanding chocolate selection. Eric, Hillary, and Tommy were as warm as ever. These are great people who have put together a wonderful enterprise.

The spice selections have expanded as well. They have the entire Burlap and Barrel line as well as many more. There are French mayonnaises I have never heard of. Do not go there if you are a potato chip addict!

Eric is a wine connoisseur who delights in small European vintages. They are working on getting a license and when they do I will have to put limits on my credit cards.

I know this is deep Valley for most of you, but it is worth a pilgrimage.
