ESGV Updates (Rowland Hts., Hacienda Hts., etc.)

Glowing Pie is already gone. Another Northern Cafe brand to shut down. Replaced by Lingling Rice Noodles, specializing in LuoSiFen (rice noodles with sea snail broth, a.k.a. smelliest soup in the world). But wait! There’s more. They offer the broth mixed with stinky tofu.

Honestly I bet it’s really good!

Yuan Fen should definitely be a contender as the best! I hope more people go to keep this place going! @avantbored you gotta go! I think there are a few Shanghainese peeps on here

They also have Lao You Fen which I don’t think is a common dish at all.

The base sounds great….garlic, fermented black beans, chilli, pickled bamboo shoots

Might need to investigate here.

Phoholic opened last week in Hacienda Heights. Hits the spot during a road trip.

Oh wow — this is high on my list of places to try.

Do you know how this soup relates to what Qin West calls “Liuzhou soup” (柳州螺蛳粉)? https://www.qinwestnoodle.com/menu-1. Maybe the same thing as the Mandarin is Liuzhou luo si fen (minus the stinky tofu).

p.s.: I recommend that Liuzhou soup and Qin West more generally.

Thanks for posting this. The menu has some similarities to the now-closed Jiang Nan Spring, which was good in its heyday.
