Farmers market, currently in season PSA

Jumbo sized eggs tend to have more double-yolkers.
And yes that’s good luck!

Maybe I’m being cheap but my kids would eat several at a sitting so it ends up being expensive. They are so delicious. I’ve had samples at Whole Foods and Mothers in the last week. My kids begged me to buy some. I might go tonight and get me some before the season is over.

If you have $50 of Groceries to buy H-mart at Wilshire and Western was having a Sumo Special. A box of 9 smallish Sumos for $12 (limit 2) with their shoppers card. Normal price is $17

Dang I was at H-mart in Buena Park yesterday. We didn’t buy quite enough but I could have probably added some more to the cart. I saw some type of sale at the sumo section but I flew right by it.

Dommy and I were taking the bus (beats finding parking) and couldn’t justify schlepping that much stuff, even though Dommy really wanted the Hello Kitty TP.

I always have to readjust pricing in my head when shopping for children. Like, the tangerines are so expensive! About the price of that cocktail I had the other night.

Healthy fruit for the kids = too expensive. The $13 Philly cheese steak sandwich meal I had for lunch…hmmm. Don’t confuse me with your logic.

They’re out at the Torrance FM both Tuesdays and Saturdays. I’ve gotten their eggs weekly for years now and haven’t noticed any change…

No pics, but the only peaches that taste “right” to me at the Brentwood FM are the ones at R&D Farms (about half way up the lane). Arnett’s are appropriately juicy, but they are VERY crisp (which gets a major “ew” from me) and have little discernible peach flavor.

Did we all know that Bristol Farms carries Harry’s Berries strawberries (too lazy to reach through the entire thread)? Saw them at the Santa Monica location.

I am not a fan of Arnett Farms. The fruit isn’t ever ripe, and it tastes generic to me, like supermarket fruit. I do take advantage of the free samples though.

I think the black splendor plumbs are pretty good, but otherwise, yes, I really only go there for the samples, too. ::sigh::

Had some great white nectarines from them this past weekend. But you are correct all of the fruit you buy is very hard. We let them ripen 1-2 days before we eat.

Great stand for samples.

Hi @Bookwich,

We’ve found the success at Arnett Farms is to ask their helpers to pick the ripest fruit for you (they do a great job). In addition, the person we ask always tells us how close it is (“let it sit on the counter for another day or two” etc.). And when we do that, the fruit turns out great.

Most of their varieties are just OK to so-so, but the ones recommended by the staff that week (and after ripening) is phenomenal. For example:

  • Arnett Farms’ Flavor King Pluots - Easily the best Flavor King Pluots we’ve tried locally from any farmers markets in the last 4 years.
  • Arnett Farms’ Flavor Queen Pluots - Also an amazing flavor bomb (not as good as Flavor King), besting any of the other stands.
  • Their Black Mission Figs (already ripe) - are fantastic! And our favorites as well.

So, considering how many varieties they offer, yes, the “hit rate” is low, but whenever we rely on their staff to recommend, and let them pick the ripest fruit for us, the ones they recommend generally turn out fantastic (for a few key varieties like the ones above).
