Yes that would be nice. The new post pandemic inflation price (online at least) is now $85. Sheesh.
David Chang has a discount for Roy’s 20% i think if you join his podcasts discourse channel.
Roy’s was I think a little under $30 in the store at Berkeley Bowl a couple of months ago. Demand pricing for the holidays, currently $66 ordered online for pickup or delivery (probably a few bucks cheaper in the store).
Holy moly does it have lardon?
Roy’s is now $109. I think that explains why it’s not at Berkeley Bowl.
For imported Panettone, Loison has been my favourite brand.
I usually get the Senza Canditi or Amarena Cherry variety, rather than the traditional one. A few of us at my house are not crazy about citron or orange in cakes and breads.
This year, I ordered some panettones made in Montreal, by Elena Restaurant. One for our house and a few for gifts. I will report back once we open it. I usually don’t open our Panettone until Dec 25th. It is often part of our Xmas breakfast.
I tried a chocolate chip panettone from Roy a few years ago. We liked it but I’m not sure I would order one again, unless it was on sale after Boxing Day for half price, or maybe 25 percent off. Some upscale kitchen shops sell it in Canada. I think I had already paid around $110 CAD when I bought it, when the CAD was stronger.
There’s a Panettone Salato made with mortadella being sold in Toronto this winter. I am not keen to try that one.

Roy’s is not a big outlier. Olivieri 1882 is $105, Biasetto is $95, Una Pizza Napoletana is $110.
Three flavors From Roy at Berkeley Bowl, $90.
this is my Alla Elena Panettone from Montreal. I chose the Alla Elena chocolate version instead of the Classic version with raisins and candied peel.
It’s a nice panettone.
I still prefer Loison and From Roy. We will still enjoy this one ![]()
all the panettone and pandoro at the Toronto Eataly were half price yesterday, in case you want to check your local Eataly for deals or order online!
