Food crawling

Inspired by @moonboy403 that did a lunch crawl recently. I did my own mini crawl this afternoon with the chow pup. Downtownish edition.

Langers - still makes me a little sad that they don’t cook and smoke it in house. But it was great.
Kid said “ dad this is really really bad bread” lol

Grand central - wanted to get a peach donut but I guess they stop it right at the end of august. Settled for a fat and flour key lime. Not as a good as I remember and also tiny. Fooflation!

Sonoratown caramelo was delicious. Smoky meat with all the right textures. Salsas both bright and punchy, beans, cheese, cabbage and guac to all bring it together. Tortilla was good but maybe not epic level like tacos carreta. This was her favorite stop

Bianco is always a solid stop. The bottom of my pizza was a little more burnt than usual. Not sure if there was a hot spot or the deck was too hot, kinda killed the balance of a plain marg. Sorbettos were great got the strawberries on the side so we could also mix them with the chocolate. Chow pup loved the chocolate with strawberries. Sad they don’t have the peach burrata.

Wanted to do another stop but it was getting late and I got pretty full since I did most of the eating lol.

I passed by Kato at around 7ish and saw that it wasn’t busy at all which made me sad. Hopefully their business is good.

First stop hot tongue. Sausage pizza well cooked and tasty ingredients but it just didn’t sing in any specific manner. Better than prime but that’s about it.

Gluttonous delicious feast at holy basil for lunch. Shout out to @PorkyBelly for organizing. Thanks for bringing the drinks and egg us @Clayfu and nice meeting you @hppzz!

I’ll let @PorkyBelly post the pro photos but had a fun little day of food today.

Then classic in n out with the chowpup

Did a little east Los Angeles taco crawl

First stop tacos Baja classic fish tacos

Second stop tacos Al vapor at tacos el toro. Supremely tender cuts of beef head and tongue. I got labio, lengua en trozo, cachete.

Third stop Los originales tacos arabes. Taco Arabe which is supposed to be the forefather to Al pastor tacos. One of the most unique and delicious tacos in the city.

Fourth stop tacos don cuco. They source high quality custom made chorizo and LA times voted it the best adobada in the city. As good as tire shop and I like their chorizo more than tire shop.

About a month ago I had a repositioning flight to Frankfurt and luckily I stumbled onto a weekly market right outside of my hotel which was great for food crawling.

It being Frankfurt I had a plethora of sausages on lol

Grilled brautwhrsr, perfect with some mustard and some crusty bread.

Mushrooms from a lady that sold mushrooms both cooked and raw

A glass of Riesling as an intermezzo

Some curry wurst from a different vendor

I also had a rhubarb pastry that was pretty unmemorable but apparently in season.

I walked over to kleinmarket halle their local market to try the famous schrieber sausages. This market Hall didn’t have nearly the vibe of the local market that was brimming with snackers and beer and wine drinkers. If anything it feel quite subdued

Fleischwurst it’s boiled and quite tender very different from the grilled sausages but I definitely prefer grilled

Some Turkish kabob to get some greens and vege in to top it off with some ayarn yogurt drink for digestion

It really made what would’ve been a boring visit to Frankfurt quite memorable.

Next time you have to add Applewoi which is the local cider and what they are “famous” for in that region.

Gardena food crawl with chow pup

Curryfornia- deep rich curry with just a hint of sweetness and a small kick. I actually ordered it was tonkatsu but he don’t hear me over the phone. The pickles, egg, and potato salad helped smooth out the edges, cut the richness, and give it some textural contrast. Will definitely be going back. Best curry in South Bay.

Kotohira- an old standby, kiddo wanted noodles so I had to oblige. Shoyu dry udon. Great kicks of umami with chewy noodles. Wanted to actually go to Otafuku for soba but they were closed.

Southbay jinmi- I think this might be the best soondae in all of LA including ktown. They’re soodaes are immaculate never a ripped outside casing. Silky smooth with that slight blood funk. Steamed perfectly some bite but still really tender and not over cooked. Kiddo said “this is delicious, so yummy!” So it’s picky kid approved.

Kansha creamery- I always get foiled by their limited operating hours. We had strawberry milk, malted cookies and cream, and a pint of peach. Peach was the standout. Strawberry milk was the first flavor I’ve gotten there that I didn’t like. It did not taste like strawberries and milk and the kid refused to eat it lol.
