For the first time, Goop actually appeals to men

For the new Goop Kitchen location in NYC, I noticed their ad campaign featured men - the principal dancer of NYC Ballet and Dave/Bob of Old Jewish Men. Goop Kitchen is operating as a separate entity from Goop, one that appeals to both men and women. It’s helping their sales. The kitchen is on track to outdo the clothing and beauty lines.

The caveats:

Goop doesn’t list their nutritional facts, not even for a Wall Street Journal reporter. They get away with it because under FDA rules, if a chain has less than 20 restaurants, they don’t need to. You’d think a clean healthy restaurant would want to be transparent though.

Goop lists their locations as Studio City, but the actual kitchen is in NoHo. Sherman Oaks is actually in Van Nuys. Santa Monica is in Sawtelle. It’s pretentious to not state these neighborhoods to try and appeal to the affluent crowd.

There’s been reports on social media of food poisoning and salmonella. In my research, I found that people had submitted official complaints, but the health inspectors found no wrongdoing. Their next location seems to be Brooklyn, but they’ve got a lot of work to do before they open. On its initial inspection, the Brooklyn kitchen has 30+ health violations.

What do y’all think of the restaurant?

It’s not a restaurant, it’s a delivery-only cloud kitchen

I have a few friends who are addicted. Watching a baseball game, hanging out on a Friday, celebrating a birthday, all they want is Goop Kitchen. I find the dishes to range from poor to decent. What drives me insane is that they genuinely believe the food is universally fantastic.

One of my friends went as far as trying to claim that you can’t tell that the pizza is gluten free (spoiler: it’s incredibly evident). I have come to conclude that much like Goop, Goop Kitchen is a cult that preys on unsuspecting victims. I would love nothing more than to never eat Goop Kitchen again. Some of the food is even half decent, I just can’t stand what it all represents.

I will say that among my cross section of friends, the Goop Kitchen infatuation is evenly distributed across gender lines. And they all tout the health aspect of Goop Kitchen, which as you succinctly said is total hogwash as the public has no clue what’s in the food.

Neighborly in Los Angeles (Westlake Village / Brentwood) actually (mostly) delivers on the multiple concepts under one roof concept that Goop Kitchen and other ghost kitchens have attempted to mostly mediocre results.
