I almost always find a spot a few blocks away up Milwood, Palms or California
Yup. Neighbors don’t love it, but so far there are no parking restrictions in the area other street cleaning. You can also often find parking on Electric Ave behind Abbott Kinney.
I wasn’t sure if he was gonna make it lol
You almost lost a national treasure that day.

Nice. How many people shared that meal?

Weak! That’s a meal for a three maybe 4 top!
I’d forgotten how good the pizzas are at Gjelina, thanks for the push to return as we hadn’t been since the pandemic. Highlights: lamb sausage pizza, tomato salad (I think they actually let the tomatoes sit in salt reach really amped up the savoriness), melon parfait, chocolate pistachio tart. Surprisingly my grilled lamb rib was a bit underseasoned for my taste.
First time for me and, while I generally don’t like schlepping my lazy butt all the way to Venice, this place was worth it! The squash blossom pizza was really good, one of my favorites in Socal so far. Also loved the rabbit ragu fettucine and agnolotti. My top dessert was the panna cotta! The grapes were a great touch.
While those were my highlights I have to admit I was impressed at how much stuff was good or great vs. just fine. It’s a big menu so it’s really nice to be satisfied with so much. If I had to put it simply: a very high average. I can see why others like it so much! One of the only downsides of these big shared meals is sometimes you wish you could have a whole dish for yourself!
FYI, discovered today that Gjelina serves an ?abbreviated “afternoon” menu btw ?3 – 5:30PM.
Also, the squash blossom pizza served at Gjelina looks to be a bit of a diff animal than the slices served by the same name at GTA (GTA had more complete pieces of squash blossoms, and the slices seemed bigger).
Oh My Gjod.
Then you fit right in with this crew. I tap out early and feel like a wimp when I dine with the OOE crew.
Haven’t been to Gjelina in a while (after being a fixture there for many years) so we went for dinner last weekend and everything was as good as ever - eggplant, sweet potatoes, duck, lamb sausage pizza. Prices have gone up again, but then whose haven’t?
Anyone going to join me in saying that Gjelina has the best pizza in LA?
We really enjoyed the Gjelina pizza we had over the weekend, but I haven’t tried Pizzeria Sei yet… Also, if the LA Bianco is as good as the one in AZ, it would be a tough call, IMHO.
