@set0312 you’re famous
what’s the tip for booking the tasting menu? wife wants to go.
30 day rolling window, Thursday and Friday only. 10/5 and 10/27 are available.
Thx. Booked 10/27
Gosh this is embarrassing haha
Dude you are in great company. Michael Jordan is the only other crying meme I can immediately recall, and he is the GOAT.
“ On the perfectly nerdy food forum Food Talk Central, posters report becoming misty-eyed and nearly crying at dinner and noticing their neighbors at the small counter tearing up, too.”
Lol I’ll take that.
You too… the article links to your thread!
Those Transparent shrimp “ruined” me…I simply cant eat resto/store-bought ones any longer!
Went tonight. Love how briskly the menu moved. Without alcohol you gotta serve a bit faster. We finished up in roughly 70 minutes from when we sat.
Food was good, some quibbles but at $110 pp I enjoyed it.
Cooked dishes were the highlights for me. The sauces were quite meaty and rich which was such an interesting contrast to how bright and acidic (I think too acidic) the cold dishes were.
The cold dishes, the sauces were a bit too citrusy and acidic so the seafood itself got a little lost and it kinda overwhelmed the delicious salsa. Most notably in the tuna tostada (the tostada was awesome). But my wife didn’t think so. Neither did the guy next to me that drank every drop of each cold dish.
The hot dishes felt almost French in sauce technique and how much seafood essence was extracted into the sauce was delicious.
Definitely will go back for ala carte. Those grilled fish and octopus tacos calling my name.
Glad to hear the wifey enjoyed
I asked chef in person and he omitted all cilantro. O_O
Echoing what everyone else has said about this tasting menu, pretty great. Ours was 10 courses, two extra cooked specials. Though not as outwardly technique driven as other tasting menus, a few things are absolutely delicious, and the price/value is insane. One of the few tasting menus (not a format I love) that wasn’t “glad I tried” but more “I need to go back every few months.”
The crab taco, as everyone has mentioned, is absolutely delicious if not lachrymose (have wanted to be pretentious and use that word all my life, thanks @set0312 . We were lucky enough to get a grilled spot prawn with attached roe. And then a bonus course, King Crab with crab fat rice. Agree with @Clayfu and others that cooked dishes are the star. The raw/ceviches aren’t quite as distinct from what’s on the regular menu.
Lolol never heard that word before but knew what it meant as soon as I saw the post.
Still the best! Their daily fish was opah which provided a better textural contrast to the ceviche mixta vs their normal kanpachi ceviche. We also had stew and kanpachi collars.
Maybe best stew in LA? What are some other spots with mean stew? Don’t say pho or ramen!
They had two open spots for the 6pm tasting but alas it was not to be for us. Apparently they’ve been booked out straight for two months.
As a long suffering USC basketball fan with season tickets, Holbox has been my salve this year. At the very least I get to enjoy some tasty tacos before watching our abomination of a program. Been going every week though which is so nice
niceeee but bronny is playing now!
lol i was sitting like 8 rows behind LeBron yesterday, which was pretty darn cool! Bronny looked really solid. The rest of the team did not!
