Not if they’re really good beets. Unfortunately all the cooked, vacuum-sealed beets I’ve found in the US are bland. In France you can get good ones.

I’ve never tried to bake lentils or any beans for that manner. I always stew/use insta pot.

What is your recipe?

I get the Melissa’s brand for beets (which is so prevalent in LA supermarkets that it’s vaguely creepy). It says product of France, but who knows if that’s the same as what you’ve gotten.

Sautee diced onion, carrots, celery and pancetta for 5 minutes in olive oil. Mix separately 1.5 cups white wine and 2 cups chicken stock. Add 2 cups du puy lentils, one crushed garlic clove and 2 bay leaves to the vegetables, then add 2.25 cups of your mixed liquids, bring to a boil, season and cook uncovered in a preheated oven (375F) for 15 minutes. Add remaining liquid and cook covered in the oven for 30-45 minutes (exact time depends on your lentils) until lentils are tender

Thai-Italian fusion (which actually worked nicely) - Chard-Curry-Lasagna - chard leaves and stalks sautéed with onion, garlic, ginger, diced tomatoes and red Thai curry paste. In addition, a béchamel sauce made with flour, milk, heavy cream and red Thai curry paste. The lasagna was topped with chopped cashew nuts and parmesan

Melissa Clark’s carrot cake recipe on The NY Times is the highest rated recipe on the cooking site. It’s an easy to make cake. You’ll end up using a lot of bowls. I cut some of the sugar and added some crushed pineapple for moisture. Left out the raisins bc my wife hates raisins. But she likes grapes and loves wine. Need more practice frosting. The cake came out a tad dry but it was delicious. Making again for Mothers Day.

Did you improvise this or was there a recipe you had/looked up?

That’s based on a Cook’s Illustrated recipe but quite simple and tasted like you would get at a good Turkish restaurant
