I gave a friend a Crock Pot that I was no longer using (a second one I’d use in our RV). I tend to cook pork in it but she’s not a big fan of pork. I’d love to pass along to her any main dish recipes that are not pork. Thanks in advance.
PS: It’s a tad smaller than mine FWIW.
I don’t own a slow cooker, but I do follow this woman on YT who just put out a Slow Cooker book. Some of the shorts might be appealing to your friend if she doesn’t want to buy the book (or borrow it from her library).
Bless your heart - and I don’t mean the mean Southern way I’ll pass this along to her. Thanks.
I can’t vouch for any of these - and hope the link works - but here’s what’s on offer at Serious Eats:
I know you said main dishes, and I’m going to ask my mothers about those, but the only time I’ve used a crockpot was to make an appetizer that involved several cans of chili and cream cheese.
I also have a very vague recollection of a dish that involved boxed stuffing, chicken pieces, and maybe cream of mushroom soup?
One of my favorite things to do with a slow cooker is make a whole chicken. It comes out like velvet and it creates an amazing concentrated broth. I then use the chicken for
Things like tinga or stacked enchiladas.
What a great idea! Thanks for that.
Personally my favorite thing to make in a crockpot, is beef stew or pot roast. Cooking it eight hours and the potatoes surprisingly never get mushy nor do the carrots. I don’t have a recipe, or I’d share it, I just do it off the top of my head.
BBQ beef is good too, or bean dishes.
That’s great to know about the vegetables. I’d have never guessed. Thanks.
