Not sure if this should go in the Asia section or not but the number of Japan-specific posts seems to have skyrocketed in the last couple of years. Which I love and am a big fan of but am wondering if at this point Japan should be split off into its own section or if a megathread should be created to consolidate info while preventing clutter. Personally leaning towards a section so we could also have threads on different sections of Japan. Would also love to hear more from current users/viewers of the Asia and Japan threads so maybe this should go there.
Really good idea, for the sake of organization and given the uptick in traffic for posts in Asia since thep andemic.
I like that idea of a Japan section. Given the relative posting and traffic for specific areas, how about splitting Asia into:
- Japan
- Korea
- China
- Hong Kong, Taiwan (or if this is going to cause a lot of political uproar, I don’t want to fight the semantics but let’s say “China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc.” or whatever)
- Southeast Asia
- South Asia
- Central Asia
The Europe section is already broken down into France, Italy, Spain, and UK.
I also wouldn’t mind if there was a dedicated Japan “practical travel help / tips” or “preparing for a trip to ____” kind of thread, because these kinds of questions get repeated. tips for airport, subway, reservation services, etc. Maybe even make that a sticky, and it can be updated with users input on those practical tips specifically.
And separately, people can have their own threads titled “Trip Report” or something. I’m in Japan now and intend to give a rundown but I prefer to keep mine labeled by month because I like to chronicle my own travels during different seasons. I love reading others’ experiences in their own, separate dedicate Trip Report threads.
