JTYH in Rosemead is Closing

JTYH Heavy Noodle in Rosemead is closing at the end of June!!! So sad to see another San Gabriel Valley legacy Chinese restaurant shut down.

The restaurant dates back to the early 1990s when it opened up as Heavy Noodling on Garvey near Garfield. I came by for a final order of Cats Ears with egg

and a bag of frozen dumplings which I will slowly dole out.

Went yesterday for dinner. I’ll add pics later.

Food is still delicious, but be prepared for a possible wait. Not sure if yesterday evening was an aberration, but the person seating us (who I assume is the owner’s son?) warned us ahead of time that there was only one person working the kitchen and that the food would take a LONG time. And… it did. For 3 of us ordering 5 dishes, dinner took over 2 hrs. :frowning:

Thankfully, the food was still delicious.

No cats’ ears!!! They offered to do mooshu w/ knife-cut noodles. The mooshu was fantastic, but I think knife-cut noodles maybe do better in a soup where they can soften more. I still enjoyed it. Fried lamb w/ green onion, chicken w/ noodles (hand pulled), fish and leek dumplings all great. The bao portion of the SJB w/ leek was good, but the filling was (to my taste) a bit undersalted and would’ve made a better, say, breakfast item (filling was “just” leeks and egg).

So sad to see this place go but glad I was able to make it one last time.
