July 2021 Rundown

Chong Qing Special Noodle

Youpo Noodles. She’s thick! Very simply flavored with garlic and some chiles. A little vinegar flavor from the sprouts. Eaten on the back of my hybrid Accord rental lol! Nice and pleasant breeze here in SGV. I likey.

Lol I will definitely do a bang bang with PRD. (Did I just become a FTC meme? I am going to own it. You did some super omakase with 20 piece okonomi? Did you bang bang with PRD?)

First indoor dining since lockdown ended;
Noshi Sushi Sunday before last with Chowpup Cameron and his gf; as reliable as before. He may have pics, which I’ll post.
Last Friday, Factory Kitchen: BUSY. CROWDED. NOISY. …and boy do I feel old and unhip eating there. Food up to pre-pandemic standards; I’ll see if I can materialize pics.

Tacos Baja Whittier where the girls are prettier

Got 4, 2 grilled and 2 fried. I like the fried a little better. In the condiments they give is a whole pickled chile pepper that is pretty damn good. Been craving fish tacos for forever!

This is a judgement free zone right?

I like these Cheeseburger Bao’s. Is it mind blowing? Nope but it’s pretty tasty. I also got al pastor dumplings, pizza dumplings and pulled pork bao lol I’ll let you know how those go!

fried tofu with sliced abalone in abalone sauce
this reminded me of a perfectly fried agedashi tofu with a crispy outer shell. abalone sauce was delicious. would order this every time.

roast pork belly
nice crispy skin, melty fat, and tender meat.

fried pompano with tomato egg
my first bite was a bit dry, but subsequent bites had crispy skin and juicy meat. and don’t forget the best part, that forehead.

mango pudding
creamy and rich, almost like a thick flan.

char siu
pretty good, i a bit more glaze would have been nice.

mapo tofu
solid with some white rice

peking pork chop
pork was a bit inconsistent, some pieces were dry and others were tender and juicy.

beef and egg clay pot rice
i was probably looking forward to this dish the most after seeing their post on ig about the crispy rice on the bottom. unfortunately ours had no socarrat :sob: and was a bit underseasoned. i’ll note this dish was the first to come out and was surprisingly fast, maybe more time was needed for the crispy?

pork and eggplant clay pot casserole
this dish was a bit too salty.

Sad to hear about the bozhaifan anywhere else in the LA area do a good rendition?

Fish forehead is firebomb.

Haven’t been back for a long time, but Nature Pagoda in San Gabriel was the place to go for some socarrat.

Nozomi for lunch has excellent QPR. Sushi is excellent. Not pictured but everybody enjoyed the karage, tempura and spicy tuna rolls although they were kinda sloppy.

Uni, toro, scallop and unagi are as good well as we’ve had recently.
