July 2025 Rundown

Finishing up PDX. Coava was luckily up the street from our Airbnb. My favorite coffee in PDX hands down. Needless to say, they saw us four mornings in a row.

We had a rather disappointing meal at Davenport. The radicchio salad was way too bitter with little buffering contrast (vinaigrette, apple and crisp). The Tuna was weird. From the menu, we thought Fijian ceviche, but this was poorly executed, with lumpy/emulsified ingredients. The last two dishes were excellent. Great wine list, service was friendly (server) to bland (sommelier). Doubt I would return.

2022 Peter Lauer Riesling Senior #6 Phenomenal, with acid for days and serious, compacted fruit.

radicchio salad, apple, hazelnut, frico

ahi crudo, coconut, chili, ginger, lime, tomato, sesame, cucumber, rice cracker

seared scallops, yellow wax beans, romano beans, hazelnuts

grilled shrimp, tomato, thyme, onion, feta

So hungry, eaten before I snapped the shot. Best dish of the night too.

Thankfully, we had a fantastic lunch at Maurice. Lunch only at this delightful diner adjacent to Powell’s. Just go!

Norwegian Smørbrød: fromage blanc, figs, aleppo pepper

Burro Burrow Burrough Farm Egg Quiche: peas, lemon cucumber, chive salad, charentais melon

Dinner at Yaowarat was really delicious. Part of the Ninsom empire serving Chinese-Thai. sorry no pictures as we were with friends. Albacore Chae Nam Pla, Crispy Bean Curd Dumpling, Chive Cakes. All three apps were great. Khao Pad Pu, Mapo Tofu, Black Olive Pork also fantastic. Had a bottle of Muga Rose and Goodfellow Blanc. Highly recommended.

We took a detour to Rum Club on the way home. If you like rum….

We hit Luce for dinner. Italian food done in sensible potions (half portions available) with great results. The wine list is really good. As is the list at the sister wine bar next door, Bar Martina, where you will wait for your table over glasses of Gamay and cheese. Everyone is so nice in Portland and both bar and restaurant had wonderful, friendly service. Highly recommended.
