no i’m a pad see ew devotee; but moo ping is what i was reading when i was asked (with perceived haste) if i was ready.
Lorenzo sandwich keeping up with the expensive sandwich theme as this one clocked in at 25 bucks. It’s in BH so their rent like Matū is pretty high.
But seriously I think Lorenzo might make the best sandwiches in the city. If anyone has other suggestions, please change my mind! Much better than the ones I had in Milan/Europe recently.
the la zucca is good. i prefer their bread to filling ratio.
i like banh mi hoa phat too.
Putting these on the list thx @PorkyBelly
Did you get to speak to the Chef at Sushi Note about jazz? I heard he’s a jazz head as well
banh mi hoa phat is the best I’ve had outside of OC
Ugh, that looks delicious and the place isn’t too far from work. Do you think it was worth it???
It is a most excellent sandwich. And I only need half.
I’ll have to next time we go!
Everyone has been gate keeping this banh mi place lol
I think about making a detour to this place to get a brekkie-into-lunch banh mi maybe 2-3x a week
I read that and instantly thought to myself, “So a full one will probably be perfect for me.”
And I was correct!
I don’t know if I can say $25 sandwich is “worth it,” but I can say that this was f*cking delicious.
The parmesan pate (which seemed more like a whipped ricotta to me), the pistachios, the red pepper were all seasoned to perfection. Bread had GREAT chew. Mortadella was so, so luscious.
And they all just worked together so, so well.
Unlike some of my other recent meals (posted here elsewhere) where I was like, “I don’t really plan to return and, if I did, I wouldn’t order the more expensive dishes,” I would happily return to Lorenzo. I wouldn’t return often, just b/c I don’t feel like spending that much $ on a regular basis, but, man, this was really, REALLY good.
If you’re at all curious, well worth a try.
There’s a really good mortadella/pistachio pesto/ricotta situation at Monroe Place right now too - for you mortyheads out there
Nice choice it was a battle for me not to get mortadella yesterday but I’d had that sandwich a couple of time already.
Never heard of it but thx for the tip. All sandwiches equally good or should I only be targeting mortadella?
how was the operation? wait time? when we’ve gone in the past it felt like they were just learning how to operate a sandwich shop. wait times stretched towards 45 minutes on three occasions. we ordered by phone a few times, which cut down on the faff.
Funny you should mentioned 45 mins since that’s what I put on the meter!
For context, I went in at ~2PM. All seats were taken inside and out, but no one was in line. Sandwich came out in just a few minutes. Seemed smooth running to me.
They seem pretty with it now. I went at around 1210 on Thursday and I waited in line for about 10 min and the lady told me 20 min at time of ordering but it only took about 10ish min. Ymmv but they had a ton of orders and were cranking them out quickly.
I’m a big fan in general - I love the turkey/saffron mayo/crispy shallot and pomegranate sandwich a LOT. Morty is another fav. Specials in general rock. My wife loves the chicken salad.
Can’t beat the prices though. Sandos are huge and delicious and every so often a really exciting new one pops up. Reminds me of Court St Grocers back in NY
Edit: I always preorder though - so it’s ready when I arrive and then I usually eat outside or bring to the park with my dog
I tried to preorder but I couldn’t stomach the 2.50ish dollar upcharge by Postmates and they wouldn’t pick up their phone.
One thing I do respect is that a man tried to cut in line to pick up a phone order but she told him to wait in line behind all the ordering customers. Good line management is an underrated feature at crowded restaurants.
