June 2025 Rundown

Roasted Duck by Pa Ord

Went on Saturday and the fried broccoli and bay scallops toast were our favorites. Ask for the parker rolls to come out with your food instead of an app so you can dip it in the sauces of both. But everything was great as usual.

We like sitting at the bar with Justin or Angel, they’re great.

We had a blast at RVR for ours, but you gotta want that vibe, plus I love the place. They opened the roof for service, much quieter. I prefer the bar for a 2-top. 2 wks ago, the sesame sauced broccolini and roasted black cod were amazing.

+1 Rustic

Had a great meal there recently. It’s not stuffy (I find Osteria Mozza to be a litttttle stuffy) and they don’t rush you out.

We were at a table because we were with friends, but bar is definitely the move!

LOL that OAD placed them at 531st Best North American restaurant 2025. A couple of Jack-In-The-Box locations probably shoulda placed ahead of Salt Bae.

The OAD location bias confirmed my suspicions that it isn’t much more than an influencer circle jerk.

I am glad certain establishments were happy with their representation but it doesn’t refute how many deserving, down-market restaurants did not make certain lists. Say what you will about Beard but they make an effort to review locations around the entire country.

~ So chowhounds are bottom-feeders, the types who eat the cheapest possible chow?

No. Chowhounds are not unshaven men in dirty raincoats, darting out of foul-smelling storefronts while shoving cheap greasy yum-yums in their mouths. Chowhounds are driven to deliciousness, period, and they’ll go way out of their way to find honest, evocative eating at any price range. That said, they’re also savvy enough to appreciate value, so they’d rather not buy their rugelach at Balducci’s when the same pastries are available at the baker’s outlet in Brooklyn at a fraction of the price. And they hate to pay $50 for dishes cooked better elsewhere for $20. But you can’t get foie gras for six bucks, and Chateau Margaux is one heckuva great drink.

Taqueria Frontera. This is the veg option no cheese. Beans and cactus. Don’t forget the Selena mural.

Meiji Siemen opened up a new branch in Tustin called Okidoki. Down the street from Tanakaya but more options here. Very nice meal but we kept on thinking about the same dishes we had in Japan that were so much cheaper and so memorable.

Nice. No idea what restaurant you are at but nice view of the harbor and West Kowloon Cultural District.

My guess would be Tin Lung Heen at the Ritz-Carlton…
