That’s hot
Ooh, what is that?
Looks like a dessert tamale? San Laurel redux?
Dang, i gotta get back there!
If you have the same menu options when you go, what we got was very tasty!
Strawberry donut (partner detected rhubarb, which makes sense), homemade soda (cherry? my palate was kind of blown since I had the hojicha first), smoked trout + hashbrown and elbderberry plate, cold zucchini (and ricotta?) soup, cold chicken + terragon mayo.
The smoked trout + hashbrown was divine. The hashbrown were squares (reminded me of a recent ATK video I saw where they did cacio + pepe “arancini” squares using tapioca). Such an elegant presentation.
Cold soup was nice on a warmish day. Definitely needed to be stirred, mixed to get the diff ingredients to combine. I’ve never had such a course grind for the pepper, so it added a textural component. Partner doesn’t love dill, so I used some of the dill from the trout plate to add to the soup. ![]()
Cold chicken plate was a bit odd but enjoyable overall. I think the cashier said that the chicken is marinated in kombu? I guess I got a bit of a seaweed flavor. Chicken texture was a bit like a Hainan chicken, but the “bounce” was less pronounced b/c the slices were quite thin. Wouldn’t have minded more protein and/or more bread. Terragon mayo was terrific and went well w/ the radishes.
Strawberry donut quite luscious and not overly sweet.
The latte was SO, SO strong.
Really liked the vibe of the place (and it took us awhile to find the entrance!). Something about the service reminded me a bit of my one visit to Meteora.
The food here (at least from this first visit) has a point of view… If Alice Waters had a quirky younger sister who had spent a lot of time in Japan, I think she’d open a place like this. Pleasantly off-beat.
I love the quirky-ness of the place too. I’ve never had kobujime done with chicken breast but it makes sense. Usually use kombu to wrap fish and give it a mild umami flavor but that’s what I’m guessing it was.
I like this, yeah Café 2001 lunch is awesome
Crema dessert in Switzerland!
Greek festival season is starting.
I know “festival”. You are probably thinking the food is bs. Social media pretty or some corporate Cava crap. Nope. These Greek festivals go hard. All family recipes with Ya Ya in charge.

Yall got a favorite nice spot open mondays? Our anniversary falls on a Monday this year and we have family in town for childcare. Was hoping for Providence or Kato our usuals but not open.
Was debating just hitting Rustic Canyon.
Also looks like Sushi Masuyoshi open Monday do people still dig it?

I wish I liked funke or Felix for a party of 2 - I feel like they give us our food too quickly and get us out in 40 mins. Esp for an anniversary/nice dinner vibe.
Rustic canyon is a great call! Ask for a booth!
Osteria Mozza is good too!
