I would be interested in understanding what the chef’s credentials or previous experience was.

Also, I’m assuming they are a mainland chef? Hangrydiary pronounced the name in cantonese on her insta so wasn’t sure.

Curious too. Not much of anything online. To grab a spot on RowDTLA is kinda of a big deal

Seems like a spot that is curated and picky with who they let in. RowDTLA is a dining destination (along with other creative outlets) for the 2 best restaurants in LA and host of Smorgasburg. Instant credibility and brand.

The space, rent, other restaurants, etc are all marketed to certain demographics.

Maybe I read that wrong. Let me know.

It’s just interesting because the chef as far as we know is not some big name chef

Hayato, Kato, and Smorgasburg are the destination; the row itself is not.

without divulging too much on how rent is done at the Row, there’s a reason it has so many small retail shops that look hip but are mostly unheard of by the general public. They are almost all closed by the time dinnertime rolls around when people visit those few restaurants. There’s quite a bit of vacancy as well. And we’re just talking the first floor, not even the higher floor office vacancies.

I do think it ought to be more popular than it is, since it does have amazing parking and very close to the freeway.

so you’re saying rent is cheap? Or do the contracts have restrictions on operating hours?

I wish they had condos / apartments. We would totally live in a loft there.

Not the greatest track record with Tartine and M. Georgina failing.

It’s the most pedestrian-hostile place I’ve been anywhere.

Lofts next to skid row never end up doing well no matter how secure the area is.
