La Traviata - SF

Went to La Traviata, a favorite from the late 70s / early 80s, for the first time in over 40 years. MacKenzie Chung Fegan’s review is spot on. Towards the end of service the family was hanging out in the back booth chatting in Albanian.

Took this photo around 9:00 after it had started to empty out. Place was pretty full and lively when we arrived around 7:15 on a Thursday.

Hot fresh bread with salted butter. Tasty. Free refill.

Minestrone was simple but good.

Tortellini in cream sauce (“alla Romana” but it’s not a Roman dish). Only dish I remember from back in the day. Still hits the spot.

Zabaglione with tart blueberries, hot, boozy, and good. Biscotto was a nice foil.

I guess it was a vegetarian meal unless there was meat stock in the minestrone. I brought a Lambrusco because I knew it would be good with the tortellini, they didn’t charge us corkage. With one glass of wine the total was $105 before tax and tip. Crazy good value these days especially given the atmosphere and service.
