Lapaba - Koreatown

No I only tried suppli from pizzerias only. Funny thing is right now lot of foodies and critics in Rome hating pastella coating because they think it’s not how suppli should be. They like the tender egg and breadcrumb version to share with their friends and family like when they were young.

As outsider I like pastella version with only flour + water since it is more easy to hold and super crunchy.

They also use all same tomato sauce brand in Rome lol which works wonderfully well with suppli. Unfortunately that company is not willing to export to US.

To me the main thing I want from supplī is the crisp / crunchy outside.

Checked it out last week. Perilla pesto and sausage orecchiette were pretty good, although the Korean flavor only came through in the former. Had a bunch of other things including the agnolotto, cacio e pepe, fried chicken, meatballs- nothing was actually tasty except for the yuzu ranch. Even the milk bread that looked so basic but good basic, was very much average. Also had a Father of the Bride moment when the meatballs came out with 3 meatballs but just 2 rolls…

Dining party was Korean American and nobody was impressed but the truffle soft serve was admittedly pretty great. I was excited given my love for all things pasta, and with the N.Silverton name anticipation was there, but not excited to do a return visit all that soon.

Are you making sandwiches? Not sure I understand the issue. Above photos show 2 rolls.

I like Lapaba. Service is friendly and efficient. Food was well executed and tasty. Portion sizes are pretty small but sufficient for us. For some reason my suppli pic didn’t come out. Parking sucks and their corkage, $50, not very friendly.

I didn’t love this place. Conceptually I’m into it, especially the lower priced smaller pasta dishes because I’m into ordering more variety of pasta. Unfortunately only one dish really worked for me which was the bucatini with jjajang Amatriciana.

Kimchi Suppli - eh, no discernible kimchi flavor. Undersalted.

Salad - fine

Bucatini - tasty, good jjajang flavor, nice al dente.

Corn cheese agnolotti - no corn flavor, brown butter wasn’t brown at all (thus just a pool of butter), overcooked pasta. Oof

Tonerelli Jjampong - awful. Lobster underseasoned. Broth tasted like nothing at all. Sauce didn’t adhere to noodles at all.

Tiramisugaru - fine. Just fine. Tasted like misugaru powder and oversoaked sponge.

Also the room itself I found tacky. Felt like a shitty hotel bar. Rubber mats from the bar were 2 inches from our plates. Service was nice.

We differed on this place.

W: I really liked it. All the dishes — they all made sense and tasted right. FOH service was pathetic though. Service was bad generally, and the wine list was boring. I don’t know why they served our branzino before our pastas. But I really liked the food.

P: I don’t find it very memorable. Nothing was wrong; the food was not memorable.
