Slightly tangy. Hard to say more because this pizza was a flavor bomb.
I also want to give a shoutout to the staff. They are all great–really sweet–and we appreciate their efforts and conversation.

Going for our first time on Sunday. Sounds like the must orders are the oysters, cali-prese, and meatballs. Any recommendations on one pizza to go with if the re-marinara is off the menu for now (and we can’t drop $270 )?
The uni pizza! The Hokkaido uni they’re using has amazing flavor.
barbecue tomato pizza add shaved culatello add stracciatella. his red pies are great, can’t to wrong with anything tomato.
I would also try the deer tartare, lamb saddle and wild berry sorbet.
Awesome - thank you! Will report back. @PeonyWarrior @PorkyBelly
damn the prices just keep going up
Popular though. They are expanding with a patio soon.
yeah I’m glad they’re doing well. just means I can’t go there as often!
Remember when they billed it as a more casual restaurant lolol
It must be me, but a $270 pizza is absurd. It recalls the $100+ burgers of yesteryear.
you just knew that wasn’t going to last
Depends on how much of which caviar it includes.
Agreed. At this price point it’s basically $$$$ sign restaurant, seems more expensive than Funke, Osteria Mozza, etc.
Genius strategy…spend way less money on the buildout since you’re billing it as casual “neighborhood joint”, then jack up the prices and profit $$$$
It does seem like a casual place, albeit in a somewhat expensive neighborhood, and some of the dishes without luxury ingredients are in line with, say, Mother Wolf.
But it’s also using a lot of luxury ingredients and the chef used to have a place with three Michelin stars. So $88 black truffle, $110 uni, and $270 caviar pizzas.
uh… waffles are coming?! do tell more.
i’m forever lamenting how LA doesn’t have very many decent waffle options. RIP animal.
the delicious red flint polenta waffle with barbecue corn cob maple syrup and bordier butter that used to be on the dinner menu will be moving to the breakfast menu once they open for breakfast and lunch service. bestest waffles in la
hold up, wait a minute. they served waffles at animal?
oh that’s right, i remember you noting that.
and yes, animal had my favoritest waffle. on one of the last dinners there i asked jon to please consider adding it to their j&v menu. sigh. so many restaurants forego waffles because of the kitchen logistics.
Dang!
